Does anyone live in or around Datchet?

We are thinking of moving out of London and are going to view a couple of houses in Datchet. Does anyone have an opinion about the village - is it nice? (it looks nice) You know the usual "moving to a new place" sort of questions.

Any information will be much appreciated

It was on my list of places to move to a while back. On investigating the area, Windsor looked like a better place to live than Datchet.

i agree ith you jmg1 - but the properties are more expensive in Windsor we would love to live there. We looked at a house in Wraysbury too but that really was "too villagy" for us.

Used to live nearby - watch out for Heathrow flight paths!!!

My brother used to live there. Was wondering why the name was familiar. Will ask him if he responds to my email in the next few days.

DH knows it fairly well and says it's very nice but very expensive (surprise!). But, as it's on the river, has 2 level crossing and is on the tourist route to Windsor and commuter rat runs to Heathrow the traffic can be horrendous so that's one to watch. HTH!

Goodness, that's a blast from the past - when I was a kid we lived near Heathrow and Datchet was on our way for days out in Windsor, I can "see" it" (Seem to remember one level crossing we turned R after, and then another where we had to turn L, with a green in the middle?)

Was a lovely looking place

thanks everyone - the traffic did look horrendous - but being from london that doesn't make a difference to us. Same goes for the flight path - here in Sheen I can read the writing on the planes that fly over our house .

Thanks for the information!

My pil lived in Wraysbury for donkeys' years and my dh grew up there! It was a really friendly place, and they were never bothered by the traffic. It's so easy to get everywhere, too!

Used to live in Langley (which was nowhere near as Datchet) always wanted to live there though. If you are used to traffic and flight noise you will be fine. Bloomin awful commute to London by car though.

bobbybobbobbingalong · 09/01/2006 08:57

"nowhere near as nice" I meant to say, but on other side of motorway.

I lived in Langley too!
