Yesterday was dd's 4th birthday party, 20 mins before the guests started to arrive she announced that her ear hurt, gave calpol, but by the time they got here she was inconsolable. Spent the entire party lying on the sofa didn't want to open her presents, see ot talk to anyone. Spent the afternoon trying to be a good host whilst attempting the get hold of the doctor. Finally saw the doctor at about 6.30, she has a severe ear infection and is on antibiotics, calpol and nurofen. HAd a rotten night, but seems a bit better today. We have promised her a half birthday party in the summer to make up for yesterday.

Awww bless her, poor little mite, along with toothache, earache is one of the worst pains a child could have.

Have you tried warming a towel or wheatbag and placing it on the affected ear? I found that worked with dd1 when she had an ear infection

Poor little lamb.

Slightly off thread.........How is the house hunting going ??

chicagomum · 08/01/2006 14:02

Thanks Radley have tried that and she says its helping. (Rather luckily she was given a wheatbag bed warmer for xmas which we are using).

Sherlock we've put the house hunting on hold for the mo as we are off on holiday in a few weeks, so will continue when we get back.

Felt so sorry for her yesterday as she has been talking about her party since before xmas, and it was her first proper birthday party now she's 4 we felt she was old enough (and her friends) to do a "real" one. .

You had a party for four year olds in the house ??

Major respect young lady. How many were there ??

LGJ walks away backwards bowing and scraping, not worthy, not worthy.

Wanted to do it at a local soft play place but was to disorganised to get it booked in time so had to do it at ours, must finish the clearing up as at work tomorrow and the nanny is coming over.

Funnily enough the only damage was from a grown up breaking a wine glass!!

Aw poor thing! Ds2's first party (when he was 4) had to be cancelled at the very last minute as he threw up just before the guests arrived! Never mind, there will be plenty more parties.

The good news is that whenever mine have had ear infections, I have always found the ABs made them better within 24 hours.

That stinks! Poor baby

Quick update, after 24hours of antibiotics she is so much better and fast asleep (for the night I hope). She will be having a little party at nursery tomorrow afternoon so its not a total disaster.
