My dd is now 5 months and has ready smiles for almost everyone. The problem is she is scared of my sil for some reason. sil has always been nice and smiley to her but my dds little mouth goes down, her bottom lip trembles and she is really upset every time she sees sil. This is also the woman who was supposed to be childminding for me when I decide to return to work!! She doesn't wear glasses or look in any way strange! What could be the reason? I feel quite sad for my sil as she was looking forward to having a baby in the family and has bought loads of stuff for dd. Sil has 3 children of her own so is used to them.Has anyone else had the experience of their child being scared of a family member? (Sil has never been on her own with dd so nothing could have happened that I'm not aware of)

not sure why this happens. DS took a similar unreasonable dislike to one of my friends - a lovely man who adores children and is getting quite broody for a few of his own, so I couldn't figure out why. Maybe he was trying to hard. BTW ds is now three and has great time for my friend now, so don't worry, it won't last forever.

magnum my youngest ds has been like this towards my dad since birth, I have no idea why but I just think that some young babies and toddlers cant express what is wrong other that screaming. Dont worry though she will grow out of it

magnum, my dd is like that not with a person, but with a plastic caterpillar that I bought her. I hide it away for months and bring it out and she gets hysterical and pushes it away! I left it on the ground in the spare room one day, she crawled in and I found her sobbing hiding behind the curtain It is no different in colour from any of her other placcy toys, I just can't understand it. I think they are just irrational little beings, I'm sure once she spends time with your sil she will be fine.
