surely I can rent a granny?

Isn't there some sort of organisation where you can rent a granny? My dd has two grannies, but neither offers us much practical help. I could really do with a local mature lady to jiggle the baby about for a couple of hours while I get some cleaning done. Thought I read about it somewhere...any ideas? (willing to pay, obviously)

Used to be a very serious 'Adopt a Granny' advert on television. Quite ashamed to admit that I used to find it uproariously funny... it's like laughing at people falling over.

Bad Kleg

I think a lot of older ladies would do it for a cuppa and a biscuit, if all you want them to do is jiggle a baby!

Advertise in a supermarket used by older people!

there's a little shop on a housing estate that is full of (very respectable) elderly types, right near us.

I thought about advertising, but what if you get 10 grannies volunteering? I mean, it's not a job, you can't exactly interview them?

try homestart...many of their volunteers are mature ladies, you could even request a mature lady...many of them are grandmas but their own grandchildren live away.

yers, trefusis is right, but it really depends on your area and how big the demand versus number of avaulable volunteers.
there are no barriers. if you need/want help they will try their hardest to help you.
you can self-refer too- just give them a ring

my mum should rent herself out... all my friends want me to tell her that she's forgotten that she actually had a couple of other 'forgotten' daughters...

she will get up and get the kiddies up and take them downstairs to play and give them breakfast whilst me and dh sleep in....

she'll clean the house from top to bottom... when she stays... incl. the oven and the extracter chimney!!!!

will make dinner and clear up as soon as you've finished and have the kitchen spotless before you leave the table...

and after she's watched her soaps... (coronation street!) she'll dissappear upstairs to read a magazine and go to bed!!!!

i love her to bits and she's worth her weight in gold... a trillion times over!!!! dh said she's the best mil in the world!!!!!

there's nothing she loves more when i say she should pop over for the week... she's due at the end of january for a week!!! woo hoo!
