i want to know if we're using much more now we have a washer drier.
but we pay a set amount each month... so how do i know if we're using more?

we get an estimated bill...last one was december... one before that was july... but i can't make head nor tail of them!

Can you check the meter reading as to whether you are using more than is estimated - the estimate will be based on the same period of previous year. Normally you should get a statement quarterly.

starlover · 03/01/2006 17:09

i thought that about quarterly statements... but these are 5 months apart? weird

it also only gives estimated meter readings on the bill AND we had a new meter fitted a while back which will mean that it doesn't tally... i think?

Number of units used over that period should be similar though.

starlover · 03/01/2006 17:15

hmm yes... bloody seeboard. they need to make their bills easier to understand.

number of units just about makes sense, but now not sure what period they're for... a quarter? a month?

They sometimes won't let you go more than year without an official reading anyway. You can always do it yourself and submit the bill for recalculation if it is getting far adrift so you can up the payments if needs be, otherwise you'll get a shock when they do read it.

Our billing dates are changing to coincide with the gas ones so the meters can be read together. Great in theory but unfortunately they can only read the electricity from outside as gas is in the garage !

actually, now you say that i think that may be what the augut bill was for.
they had us on £15 a month, even though dp said it wasn't enough.
then landed us with a massive bill and upped it to £60 a month! so we're now in credit!

i wish they would just charge us exactly what we have used each month...

£60 a month Our last few electricity bills have been estimated at about £30 a quarter ! Does yours include heating and cooker ?

starlover · 03/01/2006 17:27

no, we don't have any heating! does include cooker though, and washing machine (which is on permanently)
we have a couple of oil filled radiators too, but only use them the last month or so

not sure what my usage is. I pay Gas £25 per month and Elec £20. Am in credit with gas & electric but this usually helps towards increased usage during winter.

sparklymieow · 03/01/2006 17:39

I'm with soutern electric, I am going to wait till we move then sign up with another company and pay soutern off bit by bit.
