Shopping in Cardiff- any tips?

I am going to Cardiff for the day with my mum to do some Christmas shopping.

We are going by train but have never been to Cardiff before- does any one have any tips on where/ when to shop? We are mainly looking for department stores, M and S and other big chain stores.

I'm assuming that it is easy to walk to the main shops from the train station but please correct me if i am wrong!

(Somewhere nice for a gossipy lunch would be apreciated too Smile)

There is a lovely John Lewis 5 mins from the train station. Head for that and then just make your way through the St Davids centre to Debenhams and MS. Nice House of Fraser and lots of other shops in the Hayes as well and lovely Victorian Arcades too.

M&S! not MS. Lots of restaurants in that area too. We like Carluccios but there are all sorts.

What sort of lunch do you fancy ? A special Cardiff place is the New York Deli which is fab, but not a glass of wine place

Thanks. Somewhere quite simple but 'nice' would be good for lunch- maybe pizza or pasta (and possibly a glass of wine!)
