Can you get large things DELIVERED from IKEA?????

It's years since I bought anything large enough to need delivery from Ikea. Back then you had to wheel your item to a seperate company which were located in the same store. It was all a bit of a faff.

Amyone know if it's changed?

Its still the same, we had wardrobes delivered from a seperate company attached to the Ikea shop.
They charge so much per mile.

spacedonkey · 30/12/2005 20:24

yes it's still the same

I wonder if there's a company that will go to ikea and get stuff for you?

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 30/12/2005 20:25

Much the same although I think the delivery company is now run by Ikea.

Mikeear Snort!

Ah, happy days. Over in Sweden Ikea will deliver, you can even order online (quite useful when your nearest shop is 250 km away). And none of this "we will deliver sometime between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m." nonsense, they just phoned me at work half an hour before they arrived and I went home to meet them. There was a delay when they decided the sofa was too heavy to carry up the stairs between them and we waited for one of their mates to come round to help out, but I still give them 10/10.

Sorry, that's not very helpful but thought you should know!

The old delivery firm were pants but whoever Croydon uses now (I think they do it themselves) are fab. I've bought stuff in the morning and had it delivered in the afternoon complete with a 15 minute warning of when they were arriving.

I am running my own delivery service where I will send postable items (eg cheese graters) to people

drosophila · 31/12/2005 15:36

Thanks guys. I hope to use the Croydon one so that's really good to know.

Mike Ear -Good idea especially the assembly.

I won't be needing the delivery service now as new IKEA now open in MK -- massive traffic jams though

have sent dh in for some blinds so far......

Janh · 31/12/2005 15:54

soupy, you are always saving my life these days - thanks so much for mike ear link, will save us a horrendous trip to Warrington and spending loads on unnecessaries next year

DoesntTwiglettsBirthdayDragOn · 31/12/2005 15:55

Have you checked which areas they cover though?

seb1 · 31/12/2005 15:55

They seem to
croydon

Janh · 31/12/2005 15:57

No I hadn't . I suppose moving to Surrey especially would be a bit OTT?

DH will be thrilled

DoesntTwiglettsBirthdayDragOn · 31/12/2005 16:00

A little OTT, yes.

But maybe you could set up your own version of Mike Ear...

Janh · 31/12/2005 16:10

I just told DD1 about this blow and she instantly spotted the gap in the market up here! We are pretty much equidistant from Warrington and Leeds (M62 corridor) - hm - I wonder if I know any organisational entrepreneurial geniuses?

DoesntTheFestiveSeasonDragOn · 31/12/2005 16:11

I guess all you need is a large van to start with. And an electric screwdriver.

DoesntTurkeySoupDragon · 31/12/2005 16:12

I thought MikeEar seemed a bit pricey

DoesntTheFestiveSeasonDragOn · 31/12/2005 16:14

I guess it depends how much you loathe Ikea!
