carrots for the reindeer, brandy and mince pie for Santa

Enideepmidwinter · 23/12/2005 18:19

a drink (fine wine for dh )
a mince pie
a carrot (or several if you are dd1) for the reindeer

then leave the empty glass
crumbs in the mince pie case
and a broken off end of carrot

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 23/12/2005 18:19

Your choice of snack and drink, basically! In our house, he likes shortbread and a large glass of port...

You can also leave a carrot for Rudolph if you like.

Hulababy · 23/12/2005 18:19

Carrot for Rudolph and the other reindeers.
And for Father Christmas - a drink (not sure whether it'll be beer, sherry, port or baileys yet) and a Mince Pie or a biscuit.

tassis · 23/12/2005 18:20

gosh, i'd forgotten all about this

ds is 2.8 so this is our first year of this

thanks for the reminder!

FrenchKissUnderMistletoeGirl · 23/12/2005 18:20

Champagne if we remember not to finish it, or some wine
a clementine
chocolates
a carrot

PrincessPlumPuddingHead · 23/12/2005 18:20

we always leave out satsumas too. don't you know reindeer love satsumas? (according to ds1 anyway, not sure how reliable his info is )

Steppy1 · 23/12/2005 18:22

...mince pie, glass of port (for me !) milk & carrotts...and we always sprinkle flour around DH's wellington boot to leave Santa's footprint....

Hulababy · 23/12/2005 18:22

We sprinkle a little bit of magic elf glittery dust near the present pile too.

Hulababy · 23/12/2005 18:23

And you could sprinkle magic reindeer food int he garden - a bit of oatmeal/prrodge oats mixed with glitter would do for this

merrySOAPBOXingday · 23/12/2005 18:24

A large malt whisky and a glass of good congnac. Two mince pies and a plate of carrots.

The idea is that Santa can choose which drink he'd like, but naughty old boy that he is - he always quaffs them both!!

Now it would be no co-incidence that DH drinks whisky and I drink brandy, would it?

The children write him a letter thanking him for coming all this way to deliver their presents and impressing on him how good they have been since he last dropped by

Santa writes them a letter back - full of quite a lot of lovely things that he has watched them do that year. These are saved each year and are nice to look back on - sentimental old fool that I am

FairyTaleinNewYork · 23/12/2005 18:25

i was going to sprinkle some glitter about anyway lol.

Mince pie and a glass of lemonade for Santa (the Santa who came to dd's nursery last year told her that she should leave lemonade out because Santa can't drink and drive ) and a carrot for the reindeer. In the morning come down to find the empty glass, the carrot crunched, and just a few crumbs from the mince pie left. Oddly enough, dh dealt with the mince pie last year and I got the carrot ...

FrenchKissUnderMistletoeGirl · 23/12/2005 18:27

phew pph, I thought I was the odd one out again

Nightynight · 23/12/2005 18:32

STOCKINGS

FairyTaleinNewYork · 23/12/2005 18:43

i have just phoned peter i na panic as i dont have any chocolate coins for their stockings, he has assured me that a satsuma and a few pennies is fine.

and he says dont wrap the stocking stuff.

Krispy Kreme donuts this year, now that they've been launched in the UK. Santa loves this American treat.

I'd forgotten about the reindeer. . .carrots &/or satsumas are good, I think.

ParrupupumScum · 23/12/2005 18:53

What a great idea, medea. I have an extremely strong feeling that our Santa would like some Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

ThePrisoner · 23/12/2005 18:56

In our house, Santa really likes After Eights ...

FrostyTheGloworm · 23/12/2005 19:22

santa has a whiskey and a mince pie (...DH)
rudolph has a baileys (...me)
and some carrots for the other reindeer (carrot tops are left on table, and rest of carrots go back in fridge)

Enideepmidwinter · 23/12/2005 19:23

Santa would quite possibly kill for some krispy kremes

unfortunately as i live in Dorset he will have to make do with a crappy mince pie

edodgy · 23/12/2005 19:23

Bailey's and chocolate log here

Frostythesurfmum · 23/12/2005 19:28

Mince pie and sherry for FC by the fireplace.
And thanks to mumsnet reindeer food in the garden ('cos the reindeer can't get down the chimney).
