poorly sick baba

my 28 month old has a virus and is really poorly.He has had a raging temperature for approx 48 hours now despite two hourly ibuprofen/calpol(alternately).he is dressed in a nappy and a vest, but is still hot. His eyes are all mattery and sticky( am using anti-biotic eye drops) and he is coughing like he has been on 40 woodbines a day for years and years.He's not sleeping properly because of the cough and i'm really bothered about the poor wee scrap.
Saw emergency dr last night who said its a virus. My own dr can't see him until 28th
any tips? any ideas?

Maybe sponge him down and if you're still worried call nhs 24?

cathanks for replying- been wiping down his face but he has actually been asleep for an hour or so , though just woken up again cos of cough.
hate it when the kids are ill.
we are going abroad on 28th so praying he is better by then. don't fancy 7 hour flight with him like this.

Fingers crossed for your hols. Hope he gets better for Christmas too. It really is horrible when they're sick.

just to update- temperature seems to have gone down but still hacking away like a heavy smoker and all bleary eyed and not eating.
had a grotty night with him- he slept with us so we could keep an eye on him and he was coughing and hot all night and kept crying.really pleased he's cooled down a bit..
