Downloading to a WAP phone? Help!

I have succumbed and bought a new ringtone for my phone (very, very sad I know) when I received it it came as a message through WAP. It has been trying to read the message for about 20 mins now. Is this costing call time? Has something gone wrong, should it take this long? Help!!!

Wish I'd never bothered!!!

Arrrgh the bloomin' thing ran out of power, have plugged it into the charger and checked my airtime, the whole exercise has so far cost £1.50 and ringtone is still in cyberspace somewhere!

I can't be because the site I bought the blasted thing from was recommended here!!!

Bump again because I would like to know whether to bother wasting any more money on the useless thing?

Um... not sure! I've not had that much trouble downloading ringtones (or games). What site is it from? DOes it have a FAQ bit?

MrsSpoon · 19/12/2005 16:35

It was play.com, recommended to Nutty last week, I shouldn't have looked!

Looks like some of my WAP settings on my phone were wrong ???!!!?!?!?! Eh? Can't get a signal down here so off to try again somewhere else in the house.

I recommended it - worked fine for me. IIRC, I got either the O2 or Samsung websites to send me the WAP settings to my phone - think it was O2.

MrsSpoon · 19/12/2005 17:48

Spoken to my service provider who said that the message should still be available to download but it has disappeared from the phone (as has most of my call time ), have contacted play.com.

Unsure if the settings were truely wrong as when I retyped some of the numbers it seems to automatically take unnecessary zeros out, even after me retyping the codes with the zeros in and apart from a back slash at the end of a web address (which I don't think is entirely necessary either) it was probably correct in the first place afterall.

Feel a bit daft, I'm a grown woman, what do I want with a ringtone!!! Arrrrrgh!!!!! [nutter emoticon]

Is it not there under "push" messages or something? Mine was still there after I tried to download it, had to reset the WAP settings and then went back to it. Or has the ringtone actually arrived in your "my sounds" bit (or similar)

MrsSpoon · 19/12/2005 17:52

I can't find anything that says "push" messages, do I have to go on-line on the WAP bit again.

Mrs Spoon vows never to do this again until her DS1 is old enough to do it for her

Question mark needed at the end of the first sentence of course.

Mine's under "messages" where I then get a choice of "short messages (ie texts), multimedia and "push". and no, I have no idea what a push message is other than it connects via WAP and gives me a sparkley new ringtone!!

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 19/12/2005 18:00

But it will, of course, depend on what your phone is!!

Have to say, if it doesn't work for me, I'm clueless

MrsSpoon · 20/12/2005 10:37

Thanks for your help Soupy, I think the message has well and truely disappeared. Waiting to hear from play.com.

Keep asking myself why it matters what tune my mobile plays?

OP posts:
DoesntChristmasDragOn · 20/12/2005 12:46

Of course it matters!!

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 20/12/2005 12:47

You're sure it didn't succeed in downloading it and put it in your "my sounds" equivalent?

MrsSpoon · 20/12/2005 17:58

Nope, been through everything, it's not there. Have however found a not too bad ringtone in the ones that came with the phone to change to in meantime, bored and embarrassed by the old one.
