I need to do something after Christmas about the speeding that's going on up our road, it's been an accident waiting to happen for ages-Saturday it did. A woman driving 4 children (aged 8-12) back from a party ploughed into 3 elderly people who had just been out for a Christmas meal and were crossing over the road. She killed one and another sounds critical. What the children in the car must be going through having seen that I have no idea as by all accounts the man killed was a mess. Very sadly the man killed turned out to be my friend's grandad whose 91st birthday it was that day. She's very philosophical about it, but children from 5 schools use the road daily, it is a complete hazard and I could not live with myself if anyone else was killed. Just about no one sticks to the 30mph speed limit and there are no signs saying what the limit is. It's been an issue for years but the council refused to do anything.
Has anyone successfully sorted out a speeding problem and if so how did you go about dealing with it ? Any advice gratefully received as I am on now on a mission !

I know a neighbourhing family succeeded in getting speed humps in our road. It took them under a year to achieve this.

I'd contact your local council first. Speak to someone in their highways department to see how you make a complaint. It might even be that the road is already scheduled for traffic calming improvements.

I've been trying to get a pedestrian crossing installed on the road near us - it's lethal! The council highways people were rubbish, didn't seem to want to know so I wrote a letter to my MP who was lovely and has managed to get it added to a list of roads to receive funding, but even he said they took a lot of puching and the response we got from them showed a lot of concern about delaying traffic into Blackpool!!!!

It's very frustrating especially as we pay enough council tax/business rates that you would think you'd be able to cross a road safely. I may have to get a petition together but I'll wait a few more months to see if the council get their asses into gear. I've never done anything like this either and it's quite daunting especially when it seems so obvious yet the people who are paid to manage traffic are oblivious to the spots where the real problems are!!!

Good luck!!
