ohhh, it's lovely.
Really really lovely.

I can't wait to find out who it's for. Will we find out?

(BTW after seeing the request for MN knitters I bought myself a "teach yourself to knit" kit from Toys R us. I used to knit when I was little but could never cast on or off so you've inspired me to learn)

sis · 16/12/2005 20:12

At last! I have seen it and it is gorgeous!

Shall we do a patchwork quilt next?
So glad you didn't ask me to knit - you could have been waiting a loooong time.

LadyTophamInAChristmasHatt · 17/12/2005 07:59

Ohhhh, I really want to know who it's for.....

please tell us, please please please.

ISawFrannyandZooeyKissingSanta · 17/12/2005 08:26

It's beautiful - even more beautiful when you read that it has been a real labour of love for many of you - but there are loads of us on here begging to know more about it; will someone kindly explain the whole story?

MARINAtivityPlay · 17/12/2005 08:33

Hi all, I do just need to check with the recipient that she is OK to be outed (I am guessing that after some lightning crocheting from bundle the blanket is either in the post or has arrived at its destination), so bear with me on that.
Pruni, don't worry, I had a little list and have sent a card with all our names in it, some labels, but mostly not.
Love the idea of it being Elmeresque - that's perfect.
Thanks Hoxty for doing the snapping honours and thanks to everyone for knitting and encouraging words for the project.
As soon as I get the OK from the Mner in question, (or one of us does eg bundy or tamum) we will tell you who got it.

misdee · 17/12/2005 08:36

i'm very curious about who it is for. they are very lucky. its gorgeous.

/misde goes to take the picture round to jackie, the local knitter for a copy.........

Dear all, with her permission, I can reveal that the blanket is for Droile's ds's, especially ds2. Some of you may have seen here that her ds2 was diagnosed with a brain tumour in the Autumn and they have a long round trip for every hospital visit. Some of her online friends thought a rug for the journey might remind her that we are all thinking of her, and might be a fun, warm present for the boys.
So many people have contributed squares or encouragement or some other practical assistance that I think we can say the blanket is being sent from Mumsnet itself with our love.

feastofsteven · 18/12/2005 21:00

oh wow it has been so beautifully finished and put together. am thrilled to finally see the finished product.

MARINAtivityPlay · 18/12/2005 21:01

Could you see yours, O Ambassador from the World of Crochet? Even part-assembled, when I last laid eyes on it, it was starting to look gorgeous. Bundy's crocheted edge has framed it so perfectly!

feastofsteven · 18/12/2005 21:06

oooh thanks for the tip marina! i could definitively ID my two lacy ones, but wasn't sure about my third one on the edge!

MrsSpoon · 18/12/2005 21:06

It is gorgeous!

MrsSpoon · 18/12/2005 21:07

Also a great reminder that MN is a lovely place.

tamum · 18/12/2005 21:09

It is from Mumsnet, but we should definitely pay tribute to Marina for coordinating it all, and bundle, NQC and motherpeculiar (really hope I haven't forgotten anyone) for sewing it all togther. It's a gorgeous blanket and a lovely achievment for MN (will stop now as am sounding like bad Oscars speech)

Droile, if you're reading this I really hope your boys like it. We are all thinking of you.

It arrived yesterday just in time for our trip to Alder Hey and - what can I say?
It's wonderful, awesome. Thank you so much. All of us here are so touched. There will be a photo of the boys on it (in it?) when my digi-camera friend shows up, and I'll post it.
You lot are so amazing.
