I'm so sad that Concorde is being decommissioned - such a beautiful, elegant aircraft - and I never got to fly on her !
She flew over my house every evening and always made me stop to look up and admire. Saw her this morning climbing into the clouds as I drove along the Great West Road.

Always used to fly over my college at 11.00am - would drown out the lectures !

princesspeahead · 23/10/2003 18:16

Went to NY in her in January - didn't know then that she would be out of service by the end of the year. It was wonderful... sigh

Tinker · 23/10/2003 19:22

It flew over my house yesterday. At the airport it bobbbed its nose up and down to wave 'goodbye'

I am gutted its going, I've always wanted to go on it but now its too late Its a disgrace that BA won't let Richard Branson buy a couple. I used to work very near Heathrow and everyone found seeing Concorde special, even though we could see it every day, me for 2 years and some others for many more years.

Me too, watched the programme about it the other night and cried my eyes out - how sad am I, I just love it. As a child I used to draw pictures of her all the time, went to Manchester to see her land for the first time after they extended the runway (showing my age !)

Since flights restarted after Paris they've been flying over our house at 18.55 and I end up on the driveway waving... I think he's on the verge of sending for the people in white coats..

In fact the other morning I was gardening and dh saw me from his study, as I stood in floods of tears watching as it was a completely clear sky and I figured it might be the last time I'd ever see her (heard her tonight but v v cloudy)

binker · 23/10/2003 22:26

oh Twink I do understand ! whenever my son heard Concorde coming over(usually when I was washing up his tea things)he'd call out to me to look at my friend flying over !

I'm afraid I couldn't care less that Concorde is going. I went on her to NY a few years ago and I have no idea what the great fuss is about. Give me a nice comfortable business-class any day!

handlemecarefully · 24/10/2003 08:28

Well I'm disappointed. We would have flown on her for our 10th wedding anniversary (given the cost, it has to be a special occasion to justify the expense) but she's been decommissioned before we got the chance. I think its amazing that an aircraft can take you to New York within 3 hours - what a feat of engineering.

when i had ds we lived(basically) right at the end of heathrow's runway, everytime the concorde took off the house would shake and ds was terrified i always had to hold him tight and cover his ears with my hands but i used to love watching it landing

Loobie · 24/10/2003 17:27

we went to see it at edinburgh airport,it came in for the last time at 12.00 today,it stopped in the middle of the runway and waving out of the pilots window was the scotish flag

Frenchgirl · 24/10/2003 18:06

On French radio today, they said how the British gave a great send-off to Concorde today, with lots of people coming to watch, whereas in France we didn't celebrate it (possibly felt like we shouldn't because of the recent crash).
Anyway, I thought it made a nice change to hear a piece actually genuinely praising the UK... we can love each other!!
and I always thought Concorde was beautiful (not a plane spotter though), would have loved to go on it...

codswallop · 24/10/2003 18:32

I remmeber seeing it at primary schol and we all said wow or whatever including an american girl at our school
One of the boys told her it want her plane and she could not admire it!

Sums up the whole constructuion saga really.

Kids eh?

sis · 24/10/2003 20:03

Ds and I saw it on our way home from school today - just flying overhead and when we got home I switched on the tv and ds was very impressed to see it land!

handlemecarefully · 24/10/2003 20:44

Awww - that's nice Frenchgirl - gives us hope for an anglo french rapprochement (did you like that french touch there?)

jodee · 24/10/2003 21:40

Everyone stopped what they were doing at 4pm today to watch the 3 concordes flying past our office window in the City - quite poignant I thought.
