Are manners that far and between????

Just nipped to the local shops after the school run and went into the newsagents, as I was about to come out the door, an old lady was coming in, so I opened the door and held it open for her before I walked out, she looked shocked and said 'thank you, people don't do that often anymore' I just smiled and said 'I was brought up well' I always hold the door, and say thank you to anyone that holds the door for me. Are manners really that far and between??

they are certainly few and far between here!

i am the same as you... always check to see if anyone is behind me when giong through doors and hold it if there is, or open the door for people coming the other way etc

but i cannot count how many times round town people have just let doors swing shut in my face, or watched me struggle with a pushchair and not offered to help
and it isn't just young people either, a older lady in our flats turned and saw me coming towatrds the door the other day and pushed it closed!!!
