The truth How painful? How long does it take?I had a root filling about 8 months ago which was awful and now the tooth is hurting again quite badly.I know it shouldn't so am going back but I just want the tooth out now and don't give a s**t about saving it tbh I am so scared of the dentist and having the original treatment was major for me so I am p'd off they cocked it up but I need it done as the pain has really kicked in today HELP!!!

Double tooth? If it is then depends on top or bottom, Top come out easier so I was told by my dentist. I have had 3 wisdom out and one single tooth at the front {bottom} coz it was sticking out and useless. My wisdomes didn't hurt to come out but the injectons do!! Also depends on root. Mine are twisted and the dentist had to break tooth in to tiny pieces to get it out but it just took longer rather than having extra pain.
After is horrible though and if you get dry socket it will be agony so don't smoke coz it makes it worse.

Sorry I just make it sound awful

The tooth coming out is not painful in itself, as with fillings, it is the injections which are the painful part. And then its just gross when they pull the tooth because you can feel the tugging etc but not painful as such, just makes me feel squeamish.
Teeth can vary one i had out, i didn't even realise he'd pulled it, and then other times the roots can be curled and a lot more effort gets put in by the dentist iykwim.

I've ended up having 7 out in my lifetime, 3 wisdom teeth and 4 taken out for correcting squashed teeth when i was a teenager. You will be fine!

posts crossed but not alone in thinking the injections are worse.

i had two wisdom teeth out last year. one at a time. it didn't hurt when he did it because of the 4 injections i got. i did shake though and got all in a panic. it was bleeding quite a bit, needed to hold cottonwool on it for like an hour. it hurt for a few days.

Piece of string and a door handle?

Less painful cause it's cheaper!

Mistletoo · 12/12/2005 18:26

if only I could send you to my dentist - he's absolutely brilliant, I have no fear in his hands

roisin · 12/12/2005 18:39

i had two top wisdom teeth out and they both hurt less than fillings, i went in shaking and when the dentist asked me how i was i told him i would rather be giving birth than having a dentist appointment so he gave me some anasthetic cream before the injections and i didnt feel a thing.

roisin · 12/12/2005 19:45

Thanks Mistletoo

magnolianMistletoe · 13/12/2005 11:39

I had a bottom single out and it was the easiest one. No problem at all. Injections are worse there but the actula tooth coming out part was really quich and much easier than a double.

Good luck

i've had a big molar out. didn't hurt at all! even the injections weren't much because i was in so much pain from the tooth i hardly noticed them!

the relief when they kicked in was just heaven!

there was no drilling, just a big pair of pliars! I could feel him doing something in my mouth, but couldn't tell what! lol

noddyholder · 13/12/2005 13:17

thanks I am def having it out as my dentist says there is no point re treating it so having 1 week of strong anti biotics and then out!The abcess is too painful to do it today

i had a wisdom tooth out this time last year - and it was the best day of the year - a whole morning away from the kids, the most amazing anaesthetic that took all my troubles away for an instant (in actual fact half an hour). I dream of that anaesthetic still, a year on. And tooth came out just fine.
