Any tips on removing marker pen from oak?

Grrrr! My victorian oak desk has been badly vandalised by a child.

I need to ebay it to make room so am currently trying to clean it up.

White spirit isn't working. Any ideas?

I found ink on welsh dresser (pine ) and used those new blocks (forget what they are called) and it got it all off.

The man in the DIY shop says we have no hope but to sand it off. It goes quite deep too.

Moral: When you have kids, sell or hide your antiques.
