Shook the walls at White City? Blimey.

PantomimEDAMe · 11/12/2005 09:39

We can see the smoke from here, 10 miles away (just south of Luton but in Herts). Dh was woken by the explosion and is impressed I slept through!

Was planning to go into St Albans today Christmas shopping - anyone know if the roads are clogged?

misdee · 11/12/2005 09:39

thats awful.

WickedWinterWitch · 11/12/2005 09:39

M1 is closed Edam

misdee · 11/12/2005 09:40

st albans is always clogged edam. where are you?

its all foggy out here.

Enideepmidwinter · 11/12/2005 09:40

the roads from St Albans to hemel are closed apparently

LadySherlockofLGJ · 11/12/2005 09:40

I "felt" it in Surrey. I thought it was the heating coming on, and thought to myself, God it must be cold outside, the windows contracted. Seemingly it made itself known in Woking and Farnborough as well.

christmasdinnyer · 11/12/2005 09:41

unbelievable, WWW. everyone thought the building was falling down. also, the duty ed here was watching an OB at Whitehall and there was a bang/shaking on that too. scary.

misdee · 11/12/2005 09:41

you could try throuygh wheathampstead, welwyn, hatfield, st albans way.

AMerryScot · 11/12/2005 09:43

I felt it in Staines - wondered if there was a problem at Heathrow. It felt like an earth tremor, but clearly originated from the air, which was a bit confusing.

misdee · 11/12/2005 09:44

must've been that that woke dd2 up at 6am, she was still tired and fell back asleep till 8am. i sleep through everything except a phone ringing or baby crying.

SpringCrimboTurkey · 11/12/2005 09:58

Was wondering about Misdee and Sparkly - Are they OK?
We didn't hear it but my mum and dad and DP's cousin heard it - woke them up and the jumoed out of bed, said it was unbelievably loud!

anorak · 11/12/2005 10:30

I'm five miles away. The explosion shook my house and popped open our loft hatch, woke us all up.

The sky is filled with black smoke, I can see it rising into the sky right now out of the window next to my computer.

I was thinking of going in to St Albans, edam, as you might know there is a farmer's market today. But we've been advised to stay in and keep the doors and windows closed so I'm not going.

If it's like this where I am it will be just as bad in St Albans. The plume of smoke is drifting in that direction.

anorak · 11/12/2005 10:32

Sorry, my pc told me my message had not loaded the first time!

SpringCrimboTurkey · 11/12/2005 10:39

Hope things are OK Anorak. We are in Luton.
My Dad was supposed to be collecting his mum fron St Albans this morning but has had to cancel as there is no way he will get there any time soon. M1 is shut from 6a to 11

misdee · 11/12/2005 10:47

we're ok, fog not lifted (am assummijg its fog and not smoke). Peter rang as apparently people felt the explsion at harefield, he felt nothing even tho he was awake at the time. am wondering the M1 being closed will affect the traffic on the M25?

SpringCrimboTurkey · 11/12/2005 10:48

Should imagine so Misdee - will be extra busy - M10 is shut too aparently.
