Send one here. DD hasn't got one. Cruel mother. Truth is I couldn't find nice Cadburys one - cos they had been recalled it emerged - then remembered that we had a pocket one somewhere in the attic so bought a multipack of chocs which DD and I ate most o before 1 Dec. Ooops. DD seems to be handling it well and was delgithed teacher gave her first choc out of class advent calednar for doing excellent sentences with her spellings.

MelissasSecretSanta · 05/12/2005 15:11

Just have 1 choc per day until all the choc are gone. My DD got 2 last year (she was 1!) & she was still eating the chocs at the end of Jan!

MascaraOHara · 05/12/2005 15:56

One is at home for her to open (one is on top of a kitchen cupboard - I'm tall) and two are at my mothers house.

Why do people do this, she's a big girl as it is and has got a very sweet tooth. Her father apparently told her she had to have coke when he took her to mcDonalds yesterday even though she knows she's not allowed it and so does he... ggggrrrrr actually am getting genuinely angry better leave this thread for a bit. oops.

My heart sank yesterday evening when we went to our local chinese restaurant for a meal, the guy who owns it always spoils her, normally I let him because his children aren't over here with him yet and I think him and his wife must miss them terribly, anyway, yesterday he bought out a tub of sweets, she took one and said thank you, then he insisted on giving her more until she had one of every type and colour bulging out of her pockets. But what can you say?!?!?

Another guy who drinks in there bought her a kitkat chunky, she's never had one of these before and could barely get her mouth round it.

In fact I think this is leading on to another thread "How do you stop people buying your child sweets without offending them or sounding neurotic" honestly you wouldn't believe the stuff I end up throwing away or hiding in a cupboard until it's forgotten about just because if I let her eat everything that people gave her I'd be on Ricky Lake! sorry rant over..

If I bought mine chocolate advent calenders they would eat it all in one day. I bought lovely fabric calenders with little individual sacks for each day. I put a little sweet in each day for them that way they cant get their hands on them all at once. If I dont want them to have sweets I will put something else in.

MascaraOHara · 05/12/2005 16:27

bsg, that's what I mean she has a beutiful one where you move santa (or a star attached to santa) along each numbered pocket. It was quite expensive I think and is gorgeous it's attahced to a wooden pole that hangs from ribbon. lovely.

I would take them off her without her knowing if people had the sense to give them to me but, no, they give them straight to her telling her exactly what's in them and what to do with them grrrr.

ds has a choccie thomas tank one and one he made at toddlers where they painted snowmen then were given 25 snowflakes to stick onto picture. Am glad he only has one choccie one though.

MascaraOHara · 05/12/2005 16:35

Jeez I sound ungrateful. I'm not at all but it's just too much sometimes. It also means that I can never treat her.

LIZS · 05/12/2005 16:35

we've got loads ! ds adn dd have 2 choccy ones each (from grandparents), Playmobil one each, a felt nativity one I made when ds was a baby and a cardboard nativity one !

FlameRobin · 05/12/2005 16:42

Any way you could stagger them? One after school and one at bedtime (I don't do breakfast chocolate, and yes, I know I am pure evil), and tell her that mummy and daddy need one each too

wewishyouaClaryChristmas · 05/12/2005 16:50

mascara that's a nightmare isn't it. We don't have many sweets here (they are not banned or anything!) and I do get annoyed when people offer children sweeties.
Especially if they are having a tantrum (old lady: Awww, would he like a sweetie? Me: (grits teeth) no, he's fine, I'll deal with it, please don't reward bad bahaviour!)
We have one choc advent calendar between the 3 of them! have to break the piece into 3 every morning - it's hardly going to give them dental caries I reckon. Big treat for them tho, apparently, and suddenly everyone is eating all their breakfast!

ENIDeepMidwinter · 05/12/2005 17:16

dont give her four chocolate ones

mine are quite happy with the picture ones

and they are serious sweet-a-holics
