over the past week or so whenever we have walked in she screams bad at dd. then the other day she started to hit her. her mum was there at the time and made her apologise but not sure how to deal with it as i dont want it to look like ill jump when j hits alana cos when alana hits j theres nothing i can do other than say no and take her away. dd is 7months and j is nearly 2

Not sure what to suggest, but it is very common for children of this age to go through the hitting stage.

When the Mum is there i'd say something like 'no, we do not hit each other in this house' (and the same if your DC hit her DD) and then start a convo about disclipine and see where it goes. Maybe suggest you will tell her not to smack and encourage her to say sorry or kiss better as she is young, when she is a bit older you can talk about time out?
