Marialuisa, my dd doesn't like sandwiches either, so I go for pitta bread filled with cheese or ham, or a croissant filled with the same... She loves the croissant!!

lucy123 · 17/10/2003 11:15

wow - all these fantastic menus!

dd (17 months) had cereal for breakfast cauliflower cheese and yoghurt for lunch, various snacks consisting of bread and olive oil or dry shreddies and refused to eat my fantastic veggie spag bol for tea (she was tired - she'll eat it for lunch today).

Marialuisa - I feel inadequate now!

But how about potato salad? (trad English variety with mayonnaise or European version with fish mashed in? ) Spanish omlette? cold toast? bread sticks?

kaz33 · 17/10/2003 11:15

DS1 is 2 years 3 months

Am - Beaker of milk
Breakfast - one slice of toast with butter and dry cornflakes / crispies
11am - half brown roll
Lucnh - humous, cucember, tomtoes, pitta bread & organic yogurt
Pm - banana
dinner - prawns, penne, pepper - didn't eat very much & banana & raspberry milk shake
Before bed - another two beakers of milk

DS1 not a big eater but is getting better.

Have you tried flour tortillas? I wrap cooked meats, and veggies up in them for DD and she thinks they are great. As a fun lunch your DD could try making her own - give her the tortilla and let her put the food in and wrap it herself - might be messy as a packed lunch though.

They make great little pizzas too - just add some grated cheese, some other bits (tomatos, ham, etc) and pop in oven for a few minutes. DD loves them.

Thanks, will have a go with some of these. Sadly, pastry is generally considered a bad thing by DD, I spent ages lovingly making veggie sausage rolls for her (we don't eat pork) only for her to rip off the pastry nd scoff the sausages. Croissants are also yuck, even with jam! I find it a bit odd that she has such an aversion, she's a really good eater and will happily eat food I wouldn't touch-particularly fish and seafood.Ieuchafi!!

quackers · 17/10/2003 13:28

Quick, easy, tasty meal for kiddies:
Cook 2 or 3 fish fingers and take off the breadcrumbs, put fish into bowl of smash/fresh mash and mix with peas/sweetcorn. Add grated cheese on top - delicious!! They love it!

Angeliz · 17/10/2003 13:49

AS a treat M and S kids meals are great for 'hidden veg'. My dd loves corn on the cob for the novelty of course with pizza faces made from veg (time pending of course) . Pasta sauses with a bit of spinich in is dead easy.
veggie soups with toast 'croutons' or shaped animal toast to mop up.
Beans give 1 of your '5 fruit and veg' as does a small glass of fresh juice and most soups. Even those cans of speghetti/pasta shapes count as 1.
banana and jam sarnies.
Can't think of any mpre at the mo!

Angeliz · 17/10/2003 14:09

can get sweet potato, parsnip and carrots in her if it's in pasta and soft enough not to notice

Angeliz · 17/10/2003 14:11

oh quackers you've just cheered me up as she drinks probably 2 galsses of apple juice a day and eats the little pasta shapes( and i always hide a carrot in them........i just wish she'd eat fresh veg!

dinosaur: I think it's because it counts as a carbohydrate. Do you remember that wheel thing they used to show you in school? (with the spokes being proportional to the amounts you needed in your diet?)

There was carbohydrates (potatoes, rice etc), fruit & veg, meat, fats, and dairy. Presumably the amount of vits in potatoes is low?

Angeliz · 17/10/2003 14:12

my dd thinks corn on the cob are scary as my sister once had a game where they were all being chased by corn on the cob and we had to fend it off with sticks of celery!!!

OP posts:
quackers · 17/10/2003 14:39

Interesting Angeliz!! I'll never look a cob in the face again in the same way!
If I remember rightly though, 'Smash' does have the added vit c!!!

Blu · 17/10/2003 16:22

If you eat enough Jaffa cakes, does that count as a portion of fruit?

Northerner · 17/10/2003 16:25

Blu - 10 jaffa cakes = 1 portion of fruit

Lorien · 17/10/2003 16:42

Any good veggie ideas out there for a three year old? DS1 just won't eat meat, however small the amount and however well disguised. Every so often he will eat a small bit of fish, but I've kinda run out of ideas at the moment. He had pancake with baked beans and cheese for lunch, mashed potato, cheese, peas and a little bit of rice pudding for supper. And the thought of more baked beans tomorrow is driving me slightly spare...

quackers · 17/10/2003 16:46

Chopped ham in savoury rice??
Sausage in a pasta sauce
Spag bol/chilli
Sausage put in a yorkshire pud with gravy (blend gravy with veg so can't see)

CnR · 17/10/2003 16:52

Quakers - I think the M&S children's meals are pretty good too. If I know I am pushed for time I tend to have a couple of these in the freezer. They seem to be the best regarding salt content too.

ThomCat · 17/10/2003 16:56

Veggie casserole
Jamie Oliver Fantastic fish pie - i know it's fish but it's so nice he won't be able to resist
eggy bread
stir-fry
veggie(bit of fish?)cakes!
veggie lasagne
veggie moussaka
homemade pizza

Freddiecat · 20/10/2003 13:04

Thomcat - I remembered this thread at the weekend and was going to suggest that Jamie Oliver's fantastic fish pie was great for all the family. As long as the onions and carrots are chopped tiny adn I leave the mustard out then everything else will mash up and DS has eaten it since he was 12 months.
