I watched a programme last night about Primark taking over the High st etc with various contributions from fashion editors from vogue and grazia.I know it is the darling of the fashion set but what are the best buys there?I have bought the odd thing for ds but am going to have a look for myself this morning TIA

it depends really, you just have to trawl through the racks and buy things that you have seen similar in other shops, e.g the military jackets etc.

the quality isn't great, but i think the appeal of primark is that it is high fashion that doesn't need to last for ages as it will be out of fashion anyway.

socks & children's basics

Hulababy · 03/12/2005 09:03

Apparantly the children's trousers have adjusters inside them (a bit like maternity wear), which is useful.

Children's tights, vests and pants - many character ones in there at reduced prices. And PJs too.

I always forget to go to ours as it is the far side of town.

I like their pajamas and dressing gowns (for me)and they have great sleepover kits with pajamas, knickers, socks and toothbrush for kids. Great value. Also have a great range of slippers and slipper socks this year.

Accessories - beads, bangles, belts etc. So cheap you can buy lots in all different colours.

Auntybrandybutter · 03/12/2005 09:12

Go early before it gets busy!
I am going tomorrow as DD wants a coat!!
Everything is good value and as fashions change it doesnt have to last forever.

noddyholder · 03/12/2005 09:12

Am off shopping at 10 so thanks. What about ladies clothes?Eg presents for my sister and brother?

I got a gorgeous shrug with sequins/beading around the edge. They were flying off the shelves, they've got loads of gorgeous little tops that look great with jeans and they have the must have skinny jeans, oh and victorian style blouses too.

TurkeyGang · 03/12/2005 09:39

I want one near me!! I DO, I DO!

Ok, I'll go and sit on the naughty step.

That programme was really interesting last night, first time I have felt compelled to watch The Money Programme!!!

I have bought undies from there before, considering you are meant to get new bras every few months it works out good value to buy cheap ones and bin them. The military jacket and waistcoat were featured on the programme last night as good buys. I got a really nice green suede effect handbag there in the summer for £8 but I must admit I do feel a bit guilty and often wonder about their fairtrade policies etc.

Bought a sweater for dh that looks like a Boden number for less than £10. Very nice dark charcoal wool with a zip neck.

DinosaurInAManger · 04/12/2005 17:50

I bought a green zip-up top recently which cost about £6 - wore it to work on Friday (dress-down day) and was told I looked "glamorous"

noddyholder · 04/12/2005 17:53

Well my little lot was £47 something!
I thought that was really good.
I was well pleased expected to pay about £20 for DD a coat

fairyjay · 05/12/2005 09:48

£12 for dd's fur lined suede boots and £3 for lovely fishtail skirt.

At 12 y.o. stuff doesn't get worn out, and quickly goes out of fashion, so quality is not so important.

Struggle with going when busy though - too many people turning everything upside down!!!
