never received one.

ItllBeLonelymumThisChristmas · 02/12/2005 15:54

Well, I suppose it depends if I am interested in what their child looks like. On the whole I think I would be interested, but why not just slip a photo inside a nice Christmas themed card?

twirlingaroundthechristmastree · 02/12/2005 15:54

I like photos and round robins - it is sweet to know more about folk

expatinscotland · 02/12/2005 15:59

I HATE round robins. Love photos, tho!

puke

ItllBeLonelymumThisChristmas · 02/12/2005 16:01

You are not supposed to say anything Cod. It isn't done for your benefit. It is done for the sender's benefit: they just want to show off their wonderful offspring (that, or they are sadly trying to emulate the Royal Family in the days of Princess Di.)

AwayInAMunker · 02/12/2005 16:02

Depends how well I know the family/child.

I did it last year for close family (mainly older relatives) with pics of DS. But to do it every year to everyone is wanky IMO. And hate whole family cheese-grin ones (think Blairs Xmas message-type thing).

This year will be sending photos to a few older relatives again.

mazzystar · 02/12/2005 16:05

get one each year from dh's american rellies. the children are 20, 19, 15 and 13. if i was them i would be mortified.

fairyfly · 02/12/2005 16:06

Revolting, it's an odd expression of errr Art? Emotion? Pride? not sure what the expression is actaully all about.

Belongs in the same category of Train watercolours, dog jumpers and daily mail readers.

AwayInAMunker · 02/12/2005 16:06

Oh, yes - age of child pivotal in cheese-factor too.

skinnycow · 02/12/2005 16:07

dont like them

DinosaurInAManger · 02/12/2005 16:08

Oddly enough, I like them.

merryTissmas · 02/12/2005 16:08

I have some American friends whose Christmas card (well, Holidays Card) is a photo of the whole family outside their house. It always has a scribbled personal note on it, though, and I prefer it to a round robin.

expatinscotland · 02/12/2005 16:09

I'm gonna send cod a homemade card, w/foties, and lots of 'cuddles and kisses' .

yULeYSEES · 02/12/2005 16:11

my mate is doing this, this year. Not something I'd do myself. I'll probably like hers though but wouldn't want aquaintances pics on my mantle.

Tommy · 02/12/2005 16:14

I think putting a photo of the children inside a card is nice when you don't see them very often (I do it for my aunts etc) but not really if it's from a friend that you see very week - you know what their children look like!

fruitful · 02/12/2005 16:22

Its nice to get a photo when it is from people that you don't see often (because they live along way away, not because you don't like them enough to bother, obviously!).

Some friends of ours did one by taking a photo of 4 playmobil people and putting their faces on it, and putting them all on a background of snow/skiing. It was fantastic, particularly since they live in a mud hut in a remote village in Africa and don't get to ski...

When PILs lived in Holland they used to do one every year, because everyone does them. When I got engaged to their son, I got included in the photo too. Now that was cheesy. Fortunately I don't know most of the people it got sent to. And now they're in England so they don't do it.

bosscatsroastingonanopenfire · 02/12/2005 16:29

Loathe. someone I know always does this and her child is really ugly. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry but its true.

fisiltoe · 02/12/2005 16:33

I was going to put a sticker of a photo of the whole family inside the card only for older people who we don't see very often (many of whom haven't met ds2 cos he wasn't around this time last year!). But I'd hate it as a general thing - especially on the front of the card.

cupcakesbakingonanopenfire · 02/12/2005 16:34

I quite like them. I send shop bought cards with a photo of ds and dd stuck inside - but only for friends and family we never see! I do get a bit nervous that they'll think 'what the f?' so am picky over whom I send them to.

dramaqueen72 · 02/12/2005 16:42

ah well, we do it, for family, we always have a picture of the 3 children on it- I take photos as a paying hobby so its kinda 'normal' for me. I like it, and they are well recieved. wouldnt send them to not so close family or friends tho.
like to get them from others too, as long as I actually know and care about them. abit strange to have them from people you barely know and have their offspring looking at you from the shelf all christmas!

suedonim · 02/12/2005 18:45

Loathe them - they're tacky!

It's v popular in the US, though, and one family used their photo at my ds's wedding as their Xmas photocard. But the daughter had broken off her engagement by Xmas and it was v obvious that they'd carefully excised any sign of the ex-fiance from all the photos, LOL!

hativity · 02/12/2005 18:54

round robins are ok; photos are ok, christmas cards made from photos naff naff naff. especially if any of the kids have got christmas outfits on

Nemoinapeartree · 02/12/2005 19:02

Never recieved one..never sent one either mind. DS creates his own cards but dont do pictures in them
