Oops sorry link didn't work: Here it is again

FURTHERMORE...... if you make your own cheesy photo in a costume cards you can't send charity cards. So I prefer to send charity cards with unfussy pic of kids stuck inside. I DO stick the label inside as no-one is expected to keep it, just look at it once.

I don't like them and pre-baby I wondered what on earth possessed people to think that anyone would be that interested in their offspring. The worst thing is that now I have dd I have a sneaking urge to do cards with her on - but that's only because she is the most stunning, gorgeous & fascinating baby ever. Surely my friends will see that??

On a similar vein, have always found it odd when my SIL sends us their kids school photos. Nice kids and all, but we don't really want pictures of them everywhere.

DH is American and we get a flea in the ear if we don't do a round robin letter and send pictures. We've held off from personalised cards though. We did make calender magnets last year with pix of DD on for close relatives a long way away. They loved tham (so they said) Its hard when theres 4000 miles distance, we always appreciate when we get news of pictures form them - helps them feel closer.

I don't like when its a one upmanship game which it can be sometimes - especially the letters....

I've received photos once with a christmas card .. and I loved it .. an old uni friend who I hadn't seen for years and I got to see a lovely picture of the whole family

what's not to like?

PeachyPlumFairy · 03/12/2005 17:37

I did piccy ones once, but I did spend ages photo shop'ing them and printing in sepia, then mounting on home made cards. Normally I send the school phtots (rellies only OBV), but I send them as a gift from the kids and make sure the main pressie is from us. Everyone chases us up when we don't do it, and this year it's especially nice as FIL lost pretty much everything in his divorce and has to rebuild the whole personal memento thing, from photos upwards (little things like Christmas trimmings). After 60 years, that a lot to lose.

Usually send paper print of the kids but stick it inside or the back of hte card as I often use charity cards. Not a fan of posed photos and think those ones done in a studio with props and fake snow are cheesy. I quite like round robins though but don't do them myself.

We get one each year (thats receive, not give) with mother, father and children all dressed as santa (mother with mother claus outfit as well) complete with sky blue curtain background and faint blur. Always provides a good laugh if nothing else...

ENIDeepMidwinter · 04/12/2005 19:48

ahh

we had a sweet one once of someones 3 year old holding a star

was black and white and very cute

wilbur · 04/12/2005 19:54

I love it, I'm terminally nosey, so the more info about others lives the better.

As an expat, I rarely see my friends' & relatives' kids. . .so even though I'm pathologically unsentimental I do enjoy seeing what their kids look like, and how they grow, from year to year.

I only know 2 or 3 people that can do a non cringe-worthy round robin, though. . .I think they're a bad idea generally.

pookey · 05/12/2005 12:39

What is a round robin?

LUCYlastiKATEdchristmastocking · 05/12/2005 12:59

we did one for dd's first christmas with us, dressed her up as a reindeer (she was 10mths), gave her baubles, tinsel and xmas lights to play with and took some photo's for our xmas card. she put one of the xmas lights in her mouth briefly and her cheeks lit up. bit dangerous i know but it was very funny at the time

Janh · 05/12/2005 13:03

"bit dangerous", LK???

Have you still got it? Stick it on here, eh?

binker · 05/12/2005 13:37

I have done these before, but am aware of possibly irritating the recipients (as in being a show-off and look at my lovely child!)..however,ds is very photogenic and I'm quite good at photography,so what the hell...

pookey · 05/12/2005 14:04

lol i just noticed your name medea!

MrsFrostgetful · 06/12/2005 00:43

well....i actually make/sell handmade cards...that i include a photo on if the person wants one!!!

Basically...what i like doing...is NOT plastering it over the front...just stuck there ...but theming it...

so recently i did one for the baby's dad...and as he was into computers i used her photo to go on the moniter of the PC i pictured on the card....and another was for a baby to send her grandparents for THEIR 1st Christmas as GRANDPARENTS...so on that one i 'concealed' her photo inside a 'box' effect flap...tied with ribbon...so they had to open it to see her gorgeous face!

so i like them...but don't do tacky!!!

SpaGlorytoBlog · 06/12/2005 08:14

I don't do Xmas cards with the kids on them, but I do make up thank you cards with photos of the kids opening or playing with the relevant present.
I hope that this makes the relative feel special

glitterfairy · 06/12/2005 08:16

Loathe them but like the idea of the thank you card wiht the child actually playing wiht the present.
