Hi I'm a 1st time mum to kane John (4mths). I have been living in Warrington for 4+ years now. All my family live up North. Would love to chat or meet up with other mums for something to do.

Hi Tori
I don't live in Warrington but I do live in Preston. Do you go to any baby groups? I know it sounds obvious but there are so many around these days that you can quite literally be spoilt for choice! The NCT do a wide range from babies to toddler groups, local churches and church halls usually have groups (just because it says toddler doesn't mean you can't take your baby, you get more attention if you have a baby with you!) and the baby clinic at your surgery is a good place to meet mums too.
If you're unhappy with the groups on offer, why not start your own? Just ask your HV for advice, put up notices in your surgery and local shops etc.

Warrington is only a half hour away and I'm a first time mum too, with a 15mnth old daughter. However I don't drive, but you are more than welcome to come here anytime you like.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Thanks Lisa for your mail. I had thought about the play groups but only thought that you could take toddlers with you. I might give it a go. It's quite difficult at the moment as I am still learning things about being a mum and I haven't really got any family here to go and see. I will make it my top priority to go to and find a baby group this week!

How are you finding it being a new mum? I bet you know all the secrets.

Thanks again for the useful info.

Hi Tori - I only wish I knew all the secrets!!! All I can say is that whenever you hit a difficult patch, it never lasts long. I still feel overwhelmed and often very depressed. It is half term at the minute so all the groups I normally go to are not on, therefore I am stuck in the house all day (my family don't live close either) trying to entertain my dd who seems to have an attention span of 2 seconds at the minute! Luckily she can walk now, so we usually walk to the shop which can while away a good hour and make her tired enough to play quietly when she gets back.

I am a believer in Gina Ford, you will find a few threads here about her methods, with some mothers loving her and some hating her. But she worked for me, my dd was put on her routine at 3 months and it was the best thing I ever did for my own sanity! But this makes some toddler groups impossible to go to as they conflict with her nap times. So I really do recommend you find out about the NCT, they have a wide range of groups, from coffee mornings to bumps and babies all at varied times, and they meet in each others homes which is a lot less intimidating than a big church hall. You'll find lots of mums there with kiddies your son's age.

Just enjoy being a mum, they grow up all too quick! Mine is now a little girl almost and it happened without me noticing! You'll be a dab hand in a few months!

Keep in touch and good luck!
