thanks brightstar1, not looking for anything really upmarket but have children so nothing too rough, really. Want to move back down south from Blackpool. Originally come from Croydon but property there is too expensive. Kent is far more affordable and not too far away.

Any more info would be appreciated!

Hiya, We've just moved to a village near Longfield in Kent, in fact about 15 mins away from Gravesend. We found this site quite helpful, www.upmystreet.co.uk.

This gives a good overview to the area, property prices, neighbourhood and also most importantly the schools in the aea that you are looking at.

HTH, If you want any more info please CAT me and I'll see if i can help.

I'm in Medway - the towns you're considering. How old are your children? There are good schools and not so good schools. Mine are pretty happy where they are. There are also good grammar schools in the area if your children pass the 11+. Have to say the choice of secondary schools isn't great though, but again, some have a better reputation that others. I'm not sure what we'll do when ds1 gets to secondary age tbh. Like everywhere, there are nice areas and not so nice areas.
We live in a decent sized house in a nice friendly road though and have been pretty happy here. My children have made nice friends at school and in the road and we're close to the railway station so dh commutes to London to work.
Chatham is a fairly good town for shopping in that it has everything you need in a reasonable sized area.
Rochester is a pretty little city with quaint shops and tea-rooms, but less practical for high street shopping.
If you need to know anything else, just ask or CAT me and I'll tell you what I know.
