Will ask a friend of mine who is local, I do remember a MNetter being from there, can't remember who though.

dingdongmeggymooonhigh · 29/11/2005 14:28

it's Tallulah who lives in Ashford.

She also sells houses there.

Do you want any partic. info???

beartime · 29/11/2005 16:50

Hi, I live there, not particularly cultural and a bit dumpy, but it's getting upgraded a lot due to being near london and on the Euroline etc. There are some lovely villages nearby though. Wot else d;you want to know?

sickandtired · 29/11/2005 16:57

we are looking at buying a house, 4 bedroom, up to (and this really is the limit)275K. But I don't want to live in a shite area, I want there to be a local shop/post office, nice little pub maybe?

Hi sickandtired

I live in Ashford. We relocated from Wales 5 years ago due to DH job.Found it very different at the start after living in a city. However I have got used to it.There are lots of villages near by.We live in a large housing estate, which worked for as as we knew no one when we moved. My advice would be look at the schools and then select an area to live in.If you need further information I could email you.

tallulah · 29/11/2005 17:27

Hi I live in Ashford (& TBH don't know why anyone would want to through choice!). Where is your DP likely to be located because the traffic is diabolical so it makes a difference which side of town you are on.

moondog · 29/11/2005 22:23

sat..my aunt mentioned Hamstreet (where she lives)
Wye village High Hadon Shadox Hunt (??) and Great Chart (?? Sorry-her handwriting is impossible to read!)

She also has the numbers of a few good estate agents she deals with as well as herself-she sells for Bovis and says she could find you something on her sites.

Let me know if you are interested and I will pass them on.

Caligyulea · 29/11/2005 22:28

Hamstreet's nice, so is Woodchurch.

Does it need to be Ashford? If you can go slightly further down (only about 20-30 minutes drive) Tenterden is supposed to be much nicer.

JESSnutsRoastinOnAnOpenFire · 29/11/2005 22:33

Ashford is near me. I live in Faversham. Ashford has some lovely shops.. particularly a great shopping complex called McArthur Glen .. and Ashford International Station which will get you to Disneyland Paris in the blink of an eye! (Among other places...) And Ashford is surrounded by lots of picturesque countryside with lovely pubs and nice places to eat, drink and stay.

And a big general hospital called The William Harvey which has won awards in the South of England.

Hey Jess you are very near to me.

JESSnutsRoastinOnAnOpenFire · 30/11/2005 00:17

Oh cripes WHO are you, meggy ding dong person! Your Christmas name is totally obscure!

And WHERE are you?

beartime · 30/11/2005 00:29

I think moondog means shadoxhurst and high halden. Shadoxhurst and Great Chart are bothnice, and close too, with shop and pub I think. On the bigger side is Bethersden, not quite so far as Tenterden and on a main road. I agree about not living in Ashford out of choice but the area around is nice.

sickandtired · 30/11/2005 08:52

I looked at seven oaks too but we can't get what we want there for the money - thanks for the suggestions!

There are some lovely villages around the Ashford area and there is a big regeneration project going on I think.

I'm from further East - Deal, its about 30 mins from Ashford.

Sickandtired, is DH new job actually in Ashford?

tallulah · 01/12/2005 16:50

Shadoxhurst doesn't have a shop (unless you can't the little one at Stubbs Cross) and IIRC neither does Great Chart. They aren't really villages as I imagine a proper village to be- just a cluster of houses off a main road in the back of beyond!

The nicer villages tend to be around Canterbury, Folkestone and Maidstone.

(big regeneration project? They are knocking down Stanhope and planning to do something with the town centre which sounds like it's going to cause total chaos but haven't heard about anything else going on)
