I have a computer related question. Anyone a genius?

My computer has stopped doing something that I used to find really useful - if I was in google or the search bit on mumsnet, if I put a letter in it would drop down with everything that I had searched for under that letter so if it was a frequent search I could just click on the relelvant word rather than typing the whole thing in. God! that makes me sound so lazy, it was just really useful. Does anyone know how I can get it to do this again?

Have you or someone else deleted history on your computer? I think this has this effect.

Yup, I think Beccaroll is right - if you're using Internet Explorer, in Tools, Internet Options you can delete the History and any temporary files (e.g. cookies etc).

As you start using Google again, it should start building up it's history of thing previously typed again. Not very useful in terms of what you've lost, but you should be able to check that it's working again.

so someone has typed something in that they don't want me to see and then delted the history files so that I won't see it?

Theres no way of knowing why they were deleted! they can be set to delete themselves every now and then could this have been set up? - i hope its just someone clearing space and not hiding something lilibet

It's not a history issue, it's an autocomplete issue. For some reason, i think you've turned autocomplete off.
In IE, go to Tools/Interner Options/Content/Personal Information/Autocomplete - the options are there.
Even if it's blank now, with autocomplete on it will build up again

My history automatically deletes itself every now and again - every 60 days I think.
