DP has just been to see one and is driving back now - eeek! Our 'budget' has nearly doubled and it was nothing like what we planned, it has loads of miles but apparently (so my mechanc trained dad says) the car can do a lot more miles when it's a desiel. It was a local car we saw on Ebay, worried!

good luck, flossam. We just got our "first" car, too (DH had one before we had kids but sold it because he used it so little). That was 8 years ago.

Ours is a red 10yo diesel passat estate with 125k miles on it. We got it for £1350 (but it needs work). What's yours like?

I think you dad is right about the high milage well thats what i was also told by a mechanic, It also applies to VW golfs they last double the milage of a normal car is well. Goodluck what is the milage & what car is it?

congratulations!
we went without one for years as well. I'll never take one for granted again.

Hi sorry, only just getting back to this after the exitment of last night!!!

It's this one here

DP's just phoned now, after insisting on driving round to his brothers a couple of hours ago in the dark, to say he reversed into someone, only slightly, but all the same. Not sure if the other people want to claim yet. He passed his test in July, and hasn't driven since before yesterday. He's trying to walk before he can run and I'm a bit grrrr! Think I'm annoyed too because I should have pointed out that driving in the dark wasn't clever, but I was just feeling annoyed that he wanted to go and see his brother who isn't my favourite person right now, and didn't even think about it.

Vent over!

Men drivers shouldn't be on the road

Flossam · 27/11/2005 19:27

You're right! Trying to think of the positives now. Maybe this will make him even more cautious. He isn't a bad driver to be fair, we went out earlier, and considering he's so inexperienced he did well. Can't help feeling though without DS in the car and his bloomin brother instead a bit of male bravado was involved.
