With MILs being very much in the news it got me thinking what are the rudest things people's MILs have said to them?
Here are some mine has said to me over the years.

"Do you force (DH) to wear those clothes so other women wont fancy him?" (on DH's choice of clothes)

"How do you know he's not having an affair?" (when DH was late home)

"You are too old to have healthy babies" (on being told I was expecting- I was 29 at the time)

"There's something wrong with his toes" (Her first words on seeing her first grandchild)

She has tought me one very valuable lesson though, and that is how NOT to treat my future daughters in law!!

Imcassie Sun 12.43 - we have so much in common. Don't think anyone pointed out my good points to dp though

On telling her that I was pregnant with her first grandchild, "well, what do you expect me to say?" Next saw her when DD2 was 9 months old, so 3 1/2 years later, not through want of trying Shock.

Refused invite to our wedding, as she had already made plans for the day, DH is her only child Sad.

I am Shock at these...I can't imagine being so rude to someone. Maybe I'll never get married if this is what to expect...

On news of our engagement "if you hurt him, I'll come after you"
After moving DS1 to formula on the advice of simply everyone, "well, you clearly have bad milk"

TyMinisterForMagic · 10/07/2011 17:18

'You are not fat, just big boned' I was a size 10/12 with issues over eating at the time [hhmm]

happymole · 10/07/2011 17:20

'Wow you're BIG, I never realised you had gotten that BIG'

In the hospital, 24 hours after my emergency c-sec.

wonka · 10/07/2011 17:22

My ex-MIL (take note - EX)

You are a slut and whore and no picture of this day will ever go up in my house. (On my wedding day)

Now I'm getting the sort of daughter-in-law I always dreamed of (when BIL announced engagement and me and ex-H were 10 years married)

Everyone knows there's no life in a baby til the 5th month (when I'd had a miscarriage at 18 weeks)

What did you want to give him that name for? I'm not calling him that (on hearing name for DS)

Your father obviously can't hold down a steady job (when my father had been made redundant after 20 years with the same company)

It's your fault you had so many children (her son never had a thing to do with it)

You trapped my son into marriage (because I was pregnant)

There's more but it would out me totally in RL

While driving her to a hospital appointments, she looks out of the car window, clocks the prostitutes, turns to me and says...

"Friends of yours ?"

On a regular basis.

In her defence, we are usually driving her to the psych dept when it happens.

TheOriginalFAB · 10/07/2011 17:54

Don't have more babies as you can't cope with the ones you have.

TheOriginalFAB · 10/07/2011 17:59

She may have a point sometimes..

NotQuiteSoDesperate · 10/07/2011 18:08

there's none of that in our family - on hearing of DSs diagnosis of ASD.

you are undermining my son's manhood - on hearing that I was returning to full-time work as my poor DH had just lost his job on becoming disabled. We were in danger of losing our home!

mrsjuan · 10/07/2011 19:26

You're a much better mother than we thought you'd be.

A back handed compliment if ever I heard one.
