Fires and woodburners

We are on day 4 of having a real fire in the fire place and things are going pretty well thanks to a lesson in firemaking from a friend, but I'm finding I have to keep sorting it or it goes out . The plan is to have a woodburner installed after Christmas once the fireplace has been sorted, as DH grew up with one and swears that they are fantastic and loads better than a fire in a grate. I've been ringing round trying to sort a log delivery but am finding it difficult to compare as one is quoting per number of logs, another per load or half load. From what I can tell one person's load is different to another's depending on the lorry. How much roughly do you pay for logs ?
Could those of you with woodburners answer me a few questions please before I part with my money please (and I'm sorry if they are stupid questions, but I grew up with central heating ?!

  1. Do they definitely chuck out loads more heat than a normal fire ?

  2. Are they easier to keep going than a real fire

  3. How much wood are you getting through ?

  4. I've seen clean burn and clearview mentioned to keep the glass clean - do the glass on one's that don't have this really soot up lots ?

  5. How easy are they to keep going overnight ?

  6. Is it worth getting one that heats the hotwater as well given that we've got a combi boiler and have it on tap anyway ?
Not that I don't trust DH but I'd prefer female oinions on these things....
