So can no one help me

Or is it as confusing for others as it is for me

According to this it looks as if an ordinary single ticket to cover zones 1 - 6 is £3.40 adult and £1.80 child.

fishie · 22/11/2005 12:29

gosh you aren't dim at all, have never seen such a confusing lot of info in my life. try here but the fares often go up from the 2nd. family travel cards could be the best, depending on how many in your party.

Lio · 22/11/2005 12:31

Buy a travelcard each OR if there is a helpful person there selling tickets then it is a bit cheaper to get a family travelcard.

Example of price: adult single zone 6 to zone 1 = £3.80 (i.e. double it for a return), child single = £1.40

or for a travelcard, adult 1-6 = £6.00 (off-peak i.e. Bank Hols) and child = £2.00.

You could save £1 each per child (I think) if helpful ticket person sells you the family card, but because I've never really cottoned on to the ins and outs of that I'd stick with the normal variety of travelcard if in doubt.

As you prob know, travelcard also means you can take as many buses/tubes etc as you want = bargain.

RTKangaMummy · 22/11/2005 12:36

Thanks guys there are 33 of us in total

17 adults and 16 children

all from different families

Also we only need it for tube trains

fishie · 22/11/2005 12:40

in that case probably best to visit a station or phone well in advance to discuss what's best. possibly you can even buy tickets ahead, i'm sure they are used to doing this for school trips etc.

Lio · 22/11/2005 12:42

Wowzer, that's some group! If you can't buy the tickets in advance tell everyone to bring lots of coins in case you end up having to use the machines ? some take credit cards, some don't. Travelcards still cheaper than return tube fares, family cards will save some money but would be complicated. Unless you are feeling very saintly I'd advise everyone to be responsible for their group's tickets.

So what are you going to see/do?

RTKangaMummy · 22/11/2005 12:43

Families and friends; up to four Under 16s
accompanied by an adult who has a valid
Travelcard (including One Day and 3 Day) can
buy an Off-Peak Day Travelcard, valid in Zones
1 ? 6, for only £1 each.

I have just cut and pasted this from the website so perhaps I could get all the tickets and share the cost out between us all and share the children iyswim

Family travelcard is your best option. Afraid I don't know how much it is for zones 1-6, but for zones 1-2 it's £4.70 for one adult and two children, so effectively the children travel free.

RTKangaMummy · 22/11/2005 12:45

Thanks guys

You have been deffo brill

and so now I am sorted will get these family cards and share it all out

Lio · 22/11/2005 12:48

Maybe take some paracetemol with you too

Are you going to a show?

spacedonkey · 22/11/2005 12:49

Also I think the children would travel free on bank holidays (as they do at weekends) so you would only have to pay the adult portion of the family travelcard

RTKangaMummy · 22/11/2005 13:12

Yes deffo

I just rang to check if they will be free and so yes

Adults = £4 children free

You guys have helped so much and saved loads of money
