Ok, so this is going to sound very stupid, but i do need some help/guidance

I want to know, how do you get into running? I know it sounds stupid as you just put one leg in front of the other, but i have always wanted to be good at running and don't know where to start. I have always dreamed of running the London marathon one day. I'm only 24 now, so i'm not too old, but i'm very unfit and over weight, so if i'm going to do, i need to start now.

All serious suggestions welcome. Thanks

I'd say to start with you need proper running shoes not any old trainers you might have. They don't have to be too expensive. But as long as they are designed for running.

A good site I found when starting is This one OK so you might not be doing a 5km fun run but the principal is still the same. Good Luck!

I started with my crappy trainers but started to feel it once I really started running. If you are aiming for a marathon it would be worth investing in a half decent pair.

Don't go to the likes of JJB Sports and expect the spotty 17yr old assistant to be any help though. DH goes to Grieves, hunt out a proper sports shop (not a fashion place) and get proper advice even if you end up buying elsewhere at least you know what to look for.
