My carpet smells

I am currently trying to toilet train DD1 but she keeps peeing on the floor. I have been trying for 3 weeks but she just doesn't tell me that she needs to go. She knows when she has wet or pooed but she doesn't seem to have the control. She is 3 but has CP. Anyway, My carpet in the playroom stinks and I need to know how to get rid of the smell.

Bicarbanate of soda, you either add a spoon full when cleaning it or sprinkle it like shake and vac. It works

You can get "dry cleaner" for carpets- one is made by Dyson and is called "Zorb", another is called "host" I think you can get it from carpet shops or departments. You sprinkle it on, then vacuum up. However, it sounds as if your carpet needs a good wash! You can hire a carpet washer from most drycleaners for a few quid- you'll be sickened at how much filth you get up, and amazed at how clean your carpet looks and smells- give it a try!

We got the really nasty sick smell in ours when ds went thru' his "I'll be sick everytime you tell me off" phase.

Eventually I used shake n vac, but left it on the carpet for about 3 hrs before vaccing it out.

The room had a slightly sickly perfumey smell for about 2 days after, but reverted to normality after that.

BTW I'd probably hire one of those carpet washers from the dry-cleaners first, and give it a good clean, although it'll probably still smell a bit until you shake n vac (I don't think you have to do the song whilst shaking. I didnt and it still worked )

Invest in a steam cleaner also. They are brilliant at getting rid of dirt and smells.

Another vote for the bircarb of soda. It was recommended bu some mumsnetters when DD had an spewed partially digested milk on her bedroom carpet. It worked a treat at getting rid of the awful smell
