Worth doing or will they not bother?

Not sure where to post this but here goes.

Have been trying to pick up some sort of work I could do either on a temp basis or from home. Having trawled the internet I have come to the conclusion that there really isn't much out there. Have had my fingers burnt with work from home scams and narrowly escaped losing another £60 the other month to a magnetic marketing (advertising companies on your vehicle) scam but luckily I canvassed opinion on here and decided against. I responded to an advert here on Mumsnet but got no reply. Am feeling really pissed off and demoralised. I am rather limited by school drop off/pick ups and school holidays are a bit of a headache as dc's dad is useless with doing his share, nevertheless I really want to do something to help out finances and tbh this full time SAHM can be quite lonely.

So my idea is to print off a few copies of my CV ,do a nice accompanying letter and distribute to local businesses, for example estate agents, solicitors. Basically I would be offering my services to do temp work for them even if only for a day or so and perhaps at short notice. I would also offer to do stuff at home for them if they had a call for it. Prior to having the dcs i worked as secretary and also a receptionist so hope they would consider using me. I wonder whether any local business may be interested in me advertising their business on my vehicle just to see if there is any call for that type of thing?

I'm interested in what others think of this idea. We used to have a temping agency in my town but it has closed, not sure whether that is in my favour or not? I really don't have anything to lose I suppose?

Would be really grateful for any thoughts or opinions.
