thumbsucking - any ideas

My daughter, 4.5 is an avid thumb sucker - since we have been trying to stop this it has gotten much worse (obviously I suppose). Any ideas, anyone managed to kick the habit with their kids?

I used to suck my thumb. I decided aged 10 that it was a babyish thing to do and put myself through a strict cutting down to giving up routine. And suceeded . But not what you want to hear i bet. Had to have braces for several years as a consequence too. DS is a thumb sucker too, will look at this with interest for ideas for when he is older.

Dentist told dd that her teeth were out of line and advised she should stop. A few weeks later we saw the Wallace and Gromit film and I asked her if she wanted wererabbit teeth - she said no! A week or two later we realised she'd stopped !

I sucked my thumb until i was 6/7 and so did my sister. We were both asked if there was something we would really like and then encouraged to stop for 1 week. Of course you had afew sneaky sucks I think more ot see if you would get caught. Anyway we both managed to earn our prizes and i suppose it was a slight fear that you would lose your prize if you carried on. Ds sucks his thumb and if he is still continuing when he loses his teeth i shall try this approach.
