Maintenence payments 23 years on?

My biological father left my mum when I was 2 years old.
He left her for another woman who not long after also fell pregnant, I believe he stayed with her and still is.

In the early days he did have access but paid no maintenence. He also filed for custordy but didn't get it.
When it came down to it he actually quit his job so he could claim he was self employed so he didn't have to pay.

I've never seen him, he's never made an effort to make any contact but I'm not bothered really.

But, after having a conversation with my mum tonight it got me thinking, not that I would bother but if it came to it would he still be responsible for paying up or does it just become void after so long?

Do you mean maintenance for you, or for your Mum, or both?

Do you know if there was ever a court order? I would doubt if there was no court order whether he would have any responsibility. But I don't really know.

It must have been hard for your Mum.

I can't imagine that this would hold up in court. If it were possible to claim then the flood gates would open......only a guess though.

It did go through the courts I remember all the trips there and to the Soliciters.

He didn't even hand the house over till 1998!

It was very hard for my mum, she worked so much.

Tbh I feel quite alot of hate towards him so if someone said that you could backdate a claim I'd get every penny and donate it all to charity.
