Knocking Through ... Anyone Done It?

From January, we're going to start knocking through in to the house next door. We're not bothering doing it officially (getting planning permission to knock through, and then planning permission to unknock through again doesn't seem worth while).

Has anyone else done this? Any tips?

do the people next door know?

We have tenants in there now, they leave at the end of January. Work will start then.
