Decorating help needed please - gingham lover needs inspiration

My dining room is in desperate need of some help. The furniture is all very dark cherry (almost mahogany coloured). It's quite a big room. I love red gingham and think it would look great against the dark furniture. The thing is I don't know what to put on the walls, what colour, should I paper but what paper goes with red gingham?

My dining chairs have got slip covers on them in mid blue so they could be replaced with gingham then I could go for plain curtains but then I'm still stuck with the walls.

Help!

white - but pick one from a historical range by the main brands or farrow and ball if you've got a bit extra to spend. you'd be amazed at how different white can be and how it can actually change a room

Are you absolutely positive about the gingham??

I think the only colour options are navy blue, black and white with the red but I am not sure how they would work with the gingham.
