It's a bit early but...is there any chance that if I put up a christmas tree this year my 16 month old ds won't spend the whole day pulling it over/ trying to climb up it/ eating tinsel/ smashing baubles etc?

DD never did. We don't use tinsel b/c of the cats. And all ornaments are non-breakable.

im having the same dilema.... I just KNOW Jess will be in at it - cancelling xmas at home this year - will be at dads!

My tree will be going up on 1st Dec as normal despite 19mo dd. I successfully scared the cats away from it in previous years so am hoping for same result with dd.

Excellent! Maybe it's "too big" for them to notice (unlike wires sticking out of the tv/ telephone which he loves!) Would hate not to have a tree

my children were christmas tree nightmares. Unbreakable ornaments are definitely a must.

When DS1 was 18 months I put the tree in a corner and wedged a fireguard in front, between the chimney breast and the sofa.

Or you could get a smaller tree and stand it on a highish table - unless you have a climber there

Floor to ceiling tree every year and no bother. Ds does like to touch so any precious decorations nearer the top, well out of reach.

nikkie · 10/11/2005 21:42

i did the fire guard thing, for 3 years with dd2I'm hoping she has now finally stopped trying to climb it!
Dd1 never bothered!

Thinking the same thing DD will be 16 mo also wrecks everything. It's our first year in new house would love big tree but I know it's not worth the 1000 no's and don't touches. Have got 3ft fibre optic one I'll put out of reach and will get some tasteful lights for her to look at too.
