I am friendly with several of the mums at dss pre-school nursery. A few weeks ago two of them were going for a coffee and asked me to join but I couldn't as I was fasting for Ramadan, but I said ask me again in a few weeks.

Anyway, they did and we are planning to have a coffee at a coffee shop one day next week. I'm really looking forward to it as we always have lots to talk about and I really like them.

Sounds like they just want to make friends. I'd go personally, you can always stuff it off if it's not to your liking. I know what you mean about time being sacred and all that, but it's only once a week and these things can be fun, a good laugh, especially when you progress to beer evenings in the pub! Get yerself down there girl!

I don't think it's odd - it's nice to make friends.

I kind of understand what you are getting at. Felt the same about going to NCT coffee mornings when pregnant. But in the end was glad I did.

Like Rhubarb says if its a bit funny when you get there you can always say you've got to go to the post office or something. And you don't have to commit to going every week....

I went to a few and did get bored sometimes of kiddie talk so made my excuses every other week or so to make sure that I didn't commit. I still went to the dd few though to make sure I still got asked as I found that company is sometimes welcome when a person is at home all day.

Some of those ladies might not kow another soul in the area so will appreciate the company but if you have a wide social circle then there is no problem not going.

myermay, that does make sense, I can see why you might find it odd if you've never spoken to her before.
