Hold your nose shut and try to breathe out through it, hard.

Yawning also helps.

perhaps you have ear catarrh??!!
do they hurt or just feel blocked? if just blocked, you could try buying sudafed tablets - that's all my doctor recommended - I couldn't hear a thing. Or perhaps those hopi ear candles would work? haven't tried them myself but have heard good things about them - health shops sell them apparently.

You might have wax in your ears that need removing. You can try sticking cotton wool dipped in olive oil (to loosen the wax) in your ears (at night only!) and see if that helps. I once had to do this for a week and then have my ears syringed as they were full of wax.

dropinthe · 10/11/2005 10:08

I had my ears syringed in Turkey and it was one of the most painful things I have ever had done!

(Sorry-I'm not helping,am I?)

Otex ear drops?

nikcola · 10/11/2005 10:08

oh maybee thats the problem but yesterday i yawned really hard lol! and they went back to normal but woke up this morn to find them blocked agin , was talking to a mum at school and couldnt hear a thing!

Yes Nikcola, that was how it was for me for weeks until I eventually went to the practice nurse and she said I had wax. It didn't hurt me to have them syringed, but then I did do the softening trick with olive oil for a week before having them syringed and that is supposed to help.

Ooh your poor thing. I've had this before after a really bad bout of flu. It was horrible. Everything sounded like I was underwater. Be careful about what you are doing though. You could cause more damange than good and end up with a peforated ear drum.
I was advised by the nurse at my surgery to keep blowing my nose. It seemed to help.
Might be worth a check at the docs though just in case of ear infection.

nikcola · 10/11/2005 10:16

well yawning isnt a problem its all i seam to do lol

thanks all xx

depends whether pressure is in pushing out or out pushing in

if you blow out and its the wrong one you can damage ears

always try swallowing a lot first

I did the nose thing once when 20 metres underwater and my ear burst and poured with blood in a shark infested coral reef

SPARKLER1 · 10/11/2005 10:18
