bald patch

My dd is 20 months old and has very fine blonde hair. When she was born she appeared bald, and when it started to grow, she had a large bald patch on the back of her head, I presumed due to the fact that she was sleeping on her back. Now she's older and sleeps mostly on her side, but it's still there . There hair around the bald patch has grown and if carefully arranged can cover it up, but if it is parted, it is clearly visible. There are one or two hairs growing in the middle of it,but otherwise, it's completely bald. Has anyone else had this and can reassure me that it will grow back in?

No experience of this but my DD was also bald at birth, in fact only now is she growing an average newborn head of hair at almost 14mo, though it has grown in evenly. In fact she is so fine on top that people are always referring to her as a 'he' (which really riles me).

I would say the fact that the patch is shrinking (albeit slowly) and has a few hairs in the middle is a good sign that the hair will recover. I would pop into my GP and ask him/her how common this is and what can be done to help it grow (if anything needs to be done that is). Please try not to worry.

its comman. my kids both had it. one has very fine baby hair now, and one has a full head of curls. it grows back, its because where we lay them when wee babies on their backs, the hair 'rubs' away, because they dont turn over untill older, that part of hair is repeatadly rubbed away. once they find their own sleeping posistion (in my ones, bums in the air, heads on the side sort of thing), the hair grows back.

Hi Tissy dont worry it will definitely grow back.
It does take a little while though.

dd1 had this, it does grow back and the hair also changes from baby-fine to thicker. Nothing to worry about.

Tissy, it is really weird also as one day the bald patch is noticeable and then the next day it is gone

anyone else notice this

Her hair is already thicker than the baby fine hair, so I'm not sure it will get any thicker. The bald patch is about 4 x 5 cm right on the back of her head, It is just covered by the hair on her crown growing down over it, but now she sleeps mostly on her side I was expecting it to fill in quite rapidly, and it hasn't

Tissy My ds1 had a bald patch and very little hair on the rest of his head until he was about one. It did take a while after he stopped alwasy sleeping on his back, before it grew in. He is now 11 and has oodles of hair so I'm sure you dont need to worry!
