family photo session

Hi - has anyone had any professional photos taken ? were based in west london. Has anyone use Venture Photography. Just wondering who you used and what to expect cost wise

Deep breath....
We have been offered a voucher (apparently worth £145) for a session and a postcard sized photo with Venture. We found the photographer cringe worthily annoying (everything was "lovelyyyy"). We found that the very white background although very stylish was not the best for our very pale baby.
Anyway, we almost had a heart attack when we found out how much the poster sized portraits cost (in excess of £500 going up VERY quickly). There was NO WAY in hell we were going to spend this kind of money. For the same money you can buy a jolly good camera.
Anyway, when we came back to look at the shots, they pulled out all the stops (dark room, emotional music-think snow patrol) and quite frankly there were not that many shots (4) that looked good but in fairness I don't think it was necessarily the fault of the photographer. We walked away with our postcard sized photo that was not even of a very nice quality (in term of print) apparently worth £95!!
In short I would not recommend it. They do do very nice photos, don't get me wrong but we felt this was a licence to print money. I would love to know how much it would cost to have portrait made by a more local photographer.
