We got a cleaner! I have been struggling to keep the house clean even with the children at the childminder 2 days a week, as I just spend the whole time I am alone sleeping (and mumsnetting!). This lady is a total gem. She's happy to do anything to help, and she is ALSO a trained nursery nurse and happy to look after the kids for a while. It's like having my Mum here. On Friday she came in and said 'Oh you poor thing you look so tired, you go back to bed and I'll look after ds' and I got 2 hours more sleep!
Dh has been on at me for ages to accept more help, and I don't know why I put it off for so long, because it has revolutionised my life. She comes for 3 hours twice a week and does the cleaning, washing and ironing and takes ds out for a walk (dd is at nursery every morning now). Ie's so nice to have a house that doesn't look like a tornado hit.
Am I a sad git to enjoy it so much??

No, no, no. We used to have a cleaner, I didnt do a stroke of housework for 10 years and it was fab. Appreciate what you have got and enjoy it. I would.

Not a sad git in the slightest. Our cleaner comes tomorrow! Hurrah!

Janstar · 28/09/2003 10:01

She sounds brilliant. Make the most of it. People like her are few and far between.

Ghosty · 28/09/2003 11:43

Oh ... I want one! I dream of having a cleaner ... it is one of my goals in life! Enjoy Susanmt

Sonnet · 28/09/2003 12:44

Enjoy......it's worth it.

I have had a cleaner for over 16 years - even before children as I didn't see why I should work so hard/long hours and spend my leisure time cleaning a house.....

Sadly i am cleaner free at the moment. Over the last few years I've had two cleaners both who let me down. The last one, who was brill at first and i trusted, deterioated badly and while I was on holiday, turned up took the money left for her but didn't do any cleaning....
My friends say that I am a soft touch and people take advantage of me hence the last 2 cleaners....
I have a great lady who does my ironing....and I'm keeping on top ofg the cleaning, just, and enjoying spending the extra money at the moment....I'm sure that will all change soon

SusanMT Out of interest, how did you find yours?

susanmt · 28/09/2003 19:35

I found mine through a neighbour who knows her, which is how everything works here . Everything is word of mouth here, we tried advertising and got no-one then asked around and got one within days!!

Wish I could have one !!!
When I was working F/T, I nearly had one but DH said he didn't want strangers in our house !!!
It never quite moved him, to pull his finger out and do any housework though !!!

I've been promised one from dh if no2 (not pg though!) is another c-section. Not planning on a section just to get a cleaner though - pretty drastic. Clearly evil blackmail from dh (ie - have a vbac cos I'm not helping you off the sofa for another 8 weeks next time).
Beginning to worry about the increasing number of "Bobsmum's house is like a manky student flat" comments from friends though.

Lilysmum · 29/09/2003 09:15

Oh good for you!!!

We're taking the plunge too. A lady from a cleaning agency is coming around this Friday to make the arrangements. I am going to have 3 hours once per week. Its costing us small fortune (£9 per hour - the cleaner gets £7 p/h and the agency takes £2 p/h)...but its a small price to pay for keeping my sanity.

Well done Susanmt. We've had a cleaner for about 8 or 9 years at Castle Dracula and couldn't live without her.
