Has anyone got any ideas how I can make the cleopatra white toga/dress thing? DD (6) has famous person dressing up day at school on Thursday and has chosen Cleopatra (argghh!). I'm fine with the asp armband/blue eye shadow/eyeliner/sandals bit but I know that if I go and buy a few metres of white cloth I won't have a clue what to do with it .
I don't mind a bit of sewing as long as I know what to aim for! Anyone help me? please!

2 white pillowcases - nappy pins (on the inside) on either shoulder.

something blue or white underneath

If you are feeling artistic buy some fabric pens and draw a border round the bottem or a necklace round the top

Good luck

Maybe a rope belt/leather belt/jewelled belt (depends how much you want to spend?

poppyseed · 06/11/2005 21:48

OOOohhhhh hadn't thought of that! She's very tall for 6 (132cm) so not sure that pillowcases would be big enough but it has got me thinking.....thanks.

2 cot sheets?
Cut down a single sheet

If she is very active - you might need nappy pins at the side (where the belt goes)

The necklace should be easy to copy

If you had spare material you could cut the circle of material out (cut a head hole) decorate that and put it over the top

Lots of copyright free stuff on the web from egypt

you could get some brown wool and braid it for the belt?

Or get gold and blus material - cut into strips and braid that for a belt

you're good!

I've got loads of ideas - but never able to follow thro'

Know about pillowcases tho' as DD wore 2 for valentines day last year - with hundreds of buttons/fabric flowers glued on

Love it - never get a chance to do it

If you can't do freehand - you could print onto that paper (from staples) that you can iron on to white material

That way you get a really good necklace/border on the hem

Very Porffessional

How are you doing?

katymac · 10/11/2005 15:07

Did it work?

poppyseed · 13/11/2005 12:13

It worked a treat thanks!

I halved a bedsheet in the end and did a slash neck trimmed with gold edging and golden straps tied it on the shoulders, whilst a gold tie back was a belt! Head-dress out of curtain braiding that was all beady and loads of blue eye shadow and eyeliner clinched it for her! She was a happy bunny in the end, although mummy was cutting it fine and had to buy a new sewing machine . Thanks for all your ideas and help - I'll know who to ask next time
