This is a daft question but not sure if my heatings knackered or whether its me being daft.
I put the heating on and the thermostat clicks at 24. the heating comes on and half an hour later it switches itself off and the room becomes cold...so i trot to the thermostat which now doesnt click on till 27 repeat process...was at 30 now not clicking on at all.
What IS a thermostat meant to do.Its by not means roast hot in here either.

dunno but our boiler stopped working last night - and we're looking at a hefty repair bill just before Christmas - I could cry. Sorry, that's not helping you is it (but I feel better for sharing it ha ha ha!).

Seriously though, look at the boiler. Are there any lights flashing? Ours had a fault light flashing and when I looked it up in the user's manual it said Fault E which is very complicated so I called tje plumber. Good luck

no lights on the boiler i dont think..H/A property so if it is up the creek they will come and fix it...but because it comes on when they ask it oo they think ahh bugger it...its fine luv..er no...by the time you are outside drinking your tea and having your fag it will have gone back off again...Nahh luv...

Where is the thermostat

Could it be getting hot even tho the room isn't (by kettle/above radiator/near lightbulb)

It sounds like the thermostat is not working properly

charliecat · 05/11/2005 08:53

Its in the front room and i dont think its getting too hot. Its worked ok this morning I heard it come on ans switch off to the timer.
I will ring up the H/A and see what they say. Thanks.

Have you got a thermometer to put next to it - you will get an idea of the rooms temperature then

charliecat · 05/11/2005 08:56

Em, no but I can get my hands on one. Good idea

How's the heating?

charliecat · 08/11/2005 16:15

Sorry pc wasnt working last night, the heating, is working...for now. It goes through stages...does this click click on off not thermostat and then works...then does this again a few weeks later.
Have yet to ask my mum for a thermostat, will ring and ask her actually...just realised why its working so well looking up at it...its been on 30 since I was fiddling with it...ive just switched it to 25..its clicked off...arrgghh maybe not working so well. LOL

If ou switched it to 25 and it turned off that means the house is at least 25.......which is very warm - even with little ones 20 -22 would be fine

The thermostat will turn off the heating when the house reaches that temperature.

So if it's been at 30 - it will have been working very hard

charliecat · 08/11/2005 19:29

Its really not that warm Katy...promise If i had persisted it would have came on gone off then the thermostat refuses to acknowqledge that im fiddling with it.
Even when its frrrrrreeeeezzziiiiinggg it does it. it was toasty earlier though, throw the doors and the windows open toasty.

I think the system needs a tweak then - 'cos 25 is very warm
