I'm signed up misdee - definitely good to remind those that haven't though.

JonesTheSteam · 04/11/2005 13:14

I've just signed up Misdee - used to carry a donor card, but lost it years ago!!!!

weesaidie · 04/11/2005 13:18

Done it.

Satine · 04/11/2005 13:24

I've signed up, and have sent the link to all my family, too.

I'm quite shocked by that list. When you hear that there is a shortage of organs for transplant, you assume that there must be a vast number of people waiting and hoping. But that list only totals 6243, with fewer than 700 people waiting for organs other than kidneys. When you consider how many people die on the roads every year, and from other causes which result in organs being viable for transplant, as well as the fact that one person can supply several organs, then it's really shocking that there aren't organs available.

I wonder what proportion of the population is on the donor register, and what proportion of registrees have their wishes thwarted by relatives who won't give their consent.

misdee · 04/11/2005 15:32

12,758,681 people - 21% of the population - who have said they want to help others to live after their death by joining the NHS Organ Donor Register.

Just signed up.

Misdee, I've often thought about signing up but felt really freaked out by it. I was never sure if I could actually do it, it kind of scared me.
I never wanted to donate my corneas or my heart because (and I realise this is ridiculous) I'll see what happens after I die with my "eyes" and I loved everyone in life with my heart.
If everyone thought like me, where would we be.

I've signed it now because of Peter and you and I'm donating it all.

most people assiciate the heart with love, mainly due to marketing lol. but the heart is essientially just a pump. its a mass of muscle which pumps blood around our bodies.

I know, I "love" with my brain. My heart keep the rest of me going.

It wouldn't look very nice on valentines day with brains all over the card shop windows
