ban HID headlights?

I've recently been seeing a lot of other cars at night with extremely bright headlights, that seem to sparkle and even flash blue in mirrors and peripheral vision. The effect is distracting and disconcerting, and sometimes extreme enough to make me worry that I have an angry patrol car on my tail!

It turns out these headlights are known as HID beams, and while legal, they're a bit controversial. If improperly fitted, adjusted or maintained, they are know to dazzle.

Has anyone else experienced this, or am I just especially prone to it? For me, the effect is far more unpleasant then being caught in someone's full beams, itself a dangerous distraction on unlit country roads.

I think these lights should be banned, or at least more closely regulated. Who's with me??

I hate them! Really distracting for other drivers (though are apparently great from behind the wheel)
