Anyone else drowning under a sea of washing due to awful weather?

Tumble dryer is stuffed at back of garage that is full to brim so until dh gets his act together and gets it out I have to rely on radiators, racks and the odd spell of dry weather.

I am literally drowning with washing. Anyone else like me this week?

Me! Have no room for a drier, and my garden never has sun on it, so even if its nice, but still quite cold, it still doesn't dry even if i leave it outside for 6 hours!! Either have to sweat to death by putting all the radiators on, or wait til i'm going out, and it on for a few hours! Right nightmare

How does anybody cope without a tumble dryer in weather like this?

Troublesmummy, snap! I wish I had room for a dryer, I've tried believe me. My garden is very dark at this time of year too and also sheltered from the wind.

We have a garage (full of stuff because the landlord won't let us use the loft), but it is down the road in a compound so there is no electricity .

I am seriously considering going to the launderette as haven't even been able to change beds for nearly 2 weeks as can't dry them!

CamBangtoRights · 03/11/2005 20:46

Just don't send your dh's down the launderette, I sent dh to the launderette one evening with a kingsize duvet to which was too big to go in our w/machine, and he "popped out" for a minute during which the automatic doors locked on the launderette and we couldn't get it back till the next day

QueenVictoria · 03/11/2005 20:49

Id love to do my washing but my new washing machine wont work

codKEMP · 03/11/2005 20:51

I NAG finba to death abotu her effin lack of tumbler

JanH · 03/11/2005 20:56

I have 2 drying racks - 1 tall, 1 short; a length of banister about 8' long which will accommodate up to 8 pairs of trousers; and 2 louvre doors on the bathroom cupboard which hold 2 folded T shirts each and a couple of shirts over each end. If I do at least 1 load a day I can just about keep up, but only because I can put things into the dryer while still not nearly dry to finish drying thoroughly - with no dryer we would all be wearing damp clothes

Have turned dining room into a chinese laundry. Criss crosses of makeshift lines with string. Think it will be like that until about May.

ssd · 03/11/2005 21:09

good question to start a thread - answer is YES!!

Flum · 03/11/2005 21:11

I have found since September even on blowy and sunny days if I put washing on outside line even at 9am, it is still not dry by 5pm!! is this normal? Can you just not dry stuff outside int the Winter. If so will think seriously about getting tumble dryer.

Can you tell I've never had a garden before this year

sweetkitty · 03/11/2005 21:13

Have to decide between tumble drier or dishwasher will chose dishwasher no space for TD spare room is our chinese laundry as are the radiators

Blossomhill · 03/11/2005 21:14

Flum - It's so annoying isn't it grrrr

The other day I seriously must have pegged and unpegged my washing 4 times due to showers. Finally left it over night and a storm blew and with it 3 loads of washing lay sopping wet covered in mud and grass. Not happy

Wish I could afford to pay someone to take all dirty washing and return it all washed and ironed. I can dream

JanH · 03/11/2005 21:14

TUMBLE DRYERS DON'T HAVE TO GO IN THE KITCHEN! THEY CAN GO ANYWHERE! SPARE ROOM PERFECT PLACE! GO OUT AND BUY ONE TOMORROW!

Flum · 03/11/2005 21:16

And allour washing smells of woodsmoke from big open fire - that I love btw

Cam - do you hang the washing on a dryer above the Aga?

Blossomhill · 03/11/2005 21:17

Well am going to put mine in my bedroom (once dh digs it out). It's only a small td but is better than nothing. Although I still won't td everything as it shrinks some things.
Once conservatory is built (hopefully by end of this month) will put loads of washing and tumble dryer in there.

codKEMP · 03/11/2005 21:18

our is in our garage

JanH · 03/11/2005 21:20

Oh no BH, conservatories should be havens of peace and tranquillity - keep it in your bedroom (which obviously won't be, LOL!)

Flum · 03/11/2005 21:20

Thing is I seem to have a little mental block about tumble dryers. My mum has one and uses it all the time - even when Scorchio outside, and it just irritates me.

Blossomhill · 03/11/2005 21:20

Anyone have a washer/dryer? Was thinking of getting one as they take up less room and washing machine is probably on it's way out!

Blossomhill · 03/11/2005 21:21

Janh - lol. Well maybe when the kids leave home we will have the peace and tranquility but not now

Flum · 03/11/2005 21:21

had a washer dryer - it was pants. you had to take half the washing out to use the dryer bit and it just got rreally really hot and put such awful creases in the clothes that could not even be removed with steam ironing. nightmare.

JanH · 03/11/2005 21:22

Washer/dryers not recommended by Which, BH. For one thing you can only do one thing at a time, for another if they go wrong they are useless.
