Am home alone with ds and was chatting with mate on the phone about things kids say. Mentioned that last night at bedtime (it being halloween and all) ds said he could imagine a scary skeleton man -(understandable as he dressed up as a skeleton and has toy skeleton etc etc). But he was specific that this was a skeleton man dressed in buidlers clothes and described checked shirt and jeans. I said he needed to imagine him dressed in barbie clothes or as a ballerine (basically to make him laugh and stop the scare factor). Anyhow today is my deceased dads birthday (yep on all souls day). There is a lot of histroy and family stuff gone on since he passed over and some not too nice stuff too. I have posted before because his gravestone was removed by family due to stuff that happened.

My ds never knew him and only knows my mums new husband (who is great) who i refer to as dad and is in every important sense of the word grandpa.

Little spooky thoughts cropping up into head as we are a fairly spiritual family in terms of sensing stuff iykwim. Reason spooking me as the timing, the description (why oh why builders clothes? - can not make sense of that one). Also after dad died i had nightmares fitting ds's description.. (shudder)

oh, that is spooky. Well, you know the oriigins of Halloween are that it is the time when the veil between the two worlds is thinnest and that things like that are more likely to happen.

Do you feel that you should do a smudging?

MamaMaiasaura · 01/11/2005 21:59

what is a smudging? Thing is as kids we were always spooked by the evil woman upstairs - all my sisters and my mum sensed her too. She told us when older she thinks was spirit of dead great grandmother or grandmother on my dads side who had been murdered (stabbed with knife) which we only found out as adults.
Also am not the only one to have spooky stuff happen to their kids. My sister had baby monitor on and heard woman saying her daughters name repeatedly and when she went in the room sensed a malevolant presence.. thing is that night i sensed it and so did my other sister too and we all spoke after the events..

Gone all goose pimpley now! Think i am just being a wuss

I think you should definitely smudge. It's very simple to do although you do need some white sage. Most people buy it bundled together into a smudge stick, although you can use it loose. Basically, you light the sage and slowly walk with it all through the house, saying something like, I invite only positive energy, love and light into this house. For a situation like yours you may consider making the sign of a pentacle with your finger at each window and outside door, saying "only positive energy is allowed in here, all negative energy must stay outside" or something like that.

I will try burning some herbs then (sage sounds good). I googled smudging and came up with advice. Thanks for that.. I just wish I had the stuff to do it tonight!

Glad I could help! It should be easy to find, in the meantime, I wonder if sage from your spice cabinet would be something to use?

jabberwocky · 01/11/2005 22:14

Oh, and if you buy loose sage be sure to get the special charcoal for burning incense and put sand under it when you use it, it gets really hot.

Spice cabinet is limited - Will go shopping at weekend and stock up on nice stuff.. ran out of insence stuff ages ago too and love the smell of insense. Thanks lots.. still feeling spooked tonight tho. I am just being silly I am sure

Well, you could always cast a sacred circle around each of you when you get in bed tonight. What you would do is, for instance, put ds in bed, then when he is settled, you can either walk around the bed clockwise or just swirl your hand in a clockwise motion and say, I would like to cast a sacred circle, a place of positive energy and protection, full of love and light. Then do the same over yours. In the morning you would do a counterclockwise swirl and say, May the circle be open but not unbroken. dont' worry about getting up in the middle of the night, especially with ds as children cannot disrupt circle energy. For yourself if you wish to make a pentagram sign to get in and out, that is OK too, although in the middle of the night you may be too sleepy! I have always used these for rituals, never slept under one, but it creates a cone of positive energy, so may be just the ticket for a good night's sleep for you both!
